I am not sure why, but the more stressed out I become, the harder it is for me to concentrate at work now. I forget things I already know, I push the wrong buttons on the computer, and am not always aware of what I am doing. Sometimes people will say things to me and it sounds like they started speaking another language!

This tends to happen at the worst times. Usually when I am already very anxious or very depressed. In other words, when I need to be on my game the most.

It is very scary and I wake up with a knot in my gut every morning before I start getting ready to go.

Hey, Killian.

I had experiences with brain fog. When I read up on possible reasons- dehydration and gluten allergy came up. Both fit for me at the time. These might not be your main reasons for brain fog, but it might help to take measures to eliminate them as possible suspects$

I hope everything's sorted soon.

Good luck

I get the same way sometimes. I'll kind of space out, and while I'm aware of the task I'm doing, it's almost like I'm on autopilot and not really in control of what I'm doing. That's the best way I can describe it.

Thanks!

It helps to know that I am not alone in this and others feel that way too. It is just so hard to go to work right now because I know I am going to screw something up, or have to ask for help finding something that I used to know where it is.

Lexa, I have wondered for awhile if there could be something wrong with my body that causes this. I don't drink much water, and too much coffee, so dehydration could be a problem. Also, I have had problems with my Vitamin D count dropping to very low levels in the winter time, so maybe that could be a problem too.

Hi,

I have two issues that cause that: fibromyalgia and panic attacks. My medicine helps the panic attacks and my fibro meds help the pain, but not the fog. Do you have a pdoc you could see about the anxiety and get some help with that? A rheumatologist treats fibromyalgia. If you have any questions, feel free to send a pm to me.

I hope things get better soon.

If I miss my meds, don't get enough sleep or am anxious or stress about anything I tend to also do the same things. I've found taking it easy on the caffeine, (easier said than done), and making sure I eat healthy (too much sugar and not enough good stuff gives me the stupids).

I need to have good meals with high fiber and a decent amount of fat and protein to keep me going. If I eat just junk, I will zoom and then crash.

This isn't your fault, there is a physiological explanation for what stress does to the brain under pressure, you can't retain details when you're stressed out and the brain fog is common because of that. I think the brain is being flooded with stress hormones which basically means you're in flight or fight mode and thanks to our ancestors, they weren't worried about getting a percentage right on a document when they were running away from a mammoth with spears.

I experience the exact same things at my job. I forget to do what seems like obvious aspects to my job. When I forget I get anxious that I'm going to get criticized by my boss or co-workers. I get jumpy and when they talk to me I have a hard time comprehending. I found that when I start to get unfocused I take a minute or two to take some deep breaths away from everyone and start to analyze what and why I am forgetting these things, I also make lists of things to help me remember what to do next. Staying hydrated and eating a nutritious breakfast and lunch helps keep me focused too. Good luck!

I have the same problem. Mine is caused by adrenal fatigue. If your body doesn't make enough cortisol or makes too much, when you're under extreme stress, you go into fight or flight mode. The body and brain physically can't cope with stress like someone with healthy cortisol levels. Also thyroid problems can cause brain fog. I've had that most of my life as well.

Thanks to you all for your comments!

I think I figured out that my brain fog is coming from poor eating habits. I usually dont eat at all. I usually feel better when I eat something, but it is getting myself to want to do so that is hard right now.

I have/had the same problem. My doc put me on Ritalin and I must say it does help some. I didn't think it was working anymore but one day I didn't take it and I cannot believe the screw ups I made. It makes my anxiety a little worse but it does help me focus and feel a little more "present".

I have this problem all the time. It takes tremendous force on my part to stay on track. All I want to do is call out and stay home. But I can't,I'm second in command here.
I'm glad you discovered the link to your brain fog is eating habits...it always makes things seem so much more manageable when there's a concrete reason for why it's happening.
Thanks for this!
