Greetings. It's becoming clear that a regular job will make my life much easier right now. I've been working on a successful home internet business which will make me really good money months from now, but in the present short term, I'm struggling financially and could really use an income boost.
Despite my aptitude with technology, I want something basic because I don't want to deal with resumes, job interviews, or explaining to an employer as to why my employment history is so unstable. I'm satisfied with minimum wage for now. Even a minimum wage part time job would give me the monetary boost that I need and might even help me advance my business faster if I can be smart at managing my money and avoiding impulse purchases. There is just one big problem though: I have difficulty dealing with a lot of customers for extended periods of time. On top of that all, I have a fear of showing weakness of any kind and I feel like working a minimum wage job would make people look down on me and make me appear to be weak and stupid. I want a job even if I lose it a few weeks later and get myself fired; it's kind of hard to look at the future when I'm struggling in the present. As long as my current needs are taken care of, I don't care if I hurt later down the road; I will be strong enough to handle anything if I take care of my present needs. How can I take care of my problem? I'm done struggling and I want a job now; I'm done waiting. Thanks guys. |

I can sort of minimize the ego issues by reminding myself that the situation is temporary and by continuing to work towards long term goals (although I have trouble finding motivation for that sometimes).
Good luck with landing some work. I wonder if getting some kind of production or floor work via a temp agency would meet your immediate needs? |

I searched some temp agencies in my area and they don't seem to be worth the hassle to me.
Most of the jobs I'm unqualified for and the few that do require a valid driver's license (mine is suspended), credentials, a solid resume, and other things. I'm rusty because I haven't worked a technical job in about 3 years and my job history is limited due to my mental health issues and I'm not about to even try the resume forming when I don't have much to put on it and explaining to potential employers why I haven't been able to hold a regular job. I just need a stable income to reinforce what I already earn anyways. I wanted something basic so I can go the easy route with this. |

You're not going to find even a minimum wage job where you don't have to deal with resumes and interviews. Temping sucks, but it is your best chance - they're the one industry that won't care about your unstable work history. Some also will help you with a resume and job training.

plus temping can be more fun to take a bit of a tour of a company...you may like the atmosphere enough to stay. They can help coach you and act as an intermediary.
And, like all of the rest of us, you may have to "get over yourself" and take steps that, while odious in the short term, are in your best long term interest. Bummer, but it is pretty much universal if you're not born into great wealth Last edited by notz; Sep 22, 2015 at 06:14 PM. Reason: edited to bring within community guidelines |

You guys have a valid point and I didn't know that they didn't care about my unstable work history. I've always been terrible at job interviews because I don't like being constantly observed and judged by somebody and I'm afraid of showing weakness as I mentioned in a previous reply here. Not to mention that I'm extremely rusty on my tech knowledge. I have a couple certifications in the IT field, but I've had them for so long that they're expired now (they expire every 3 years since technology changes so fast).
And there are places where I live that don't require resumes or job interviews beyond a perspective employer asking a basic set of questions. Then again, I live somewhere that is behind most places of the world and I plan on moving away when I get my finances stable. Still though, it seems like a temp agency could help me. How hard is it to get a job with them and how long does it generally take? After all, I need something only to help me short term. |

Temp places can sometimes hook you up in less than a week. It isn't hard but they do monitor your placements and if you get a few bad reports, they tend to sideline you. Please try to start small, take baby steps and build on success. And who is really good at job interviews? Very few of us, I think!!!

by the way, the very fact that your entry is called "how to get over ego issues" proves that you are way ahead of the crowd!
You can do this! |

I'll give it a try this week. I wish I had more support from people in my life

Good luck! You might also keep your eye out for a temporary seasonal job (which sometimes you see through a temp agency, sometimes an ad from the employer) - mail order/catalog companies often hire additional help packing/sorting/shipping (no customer contact). A lot of those jobs don't care about employment history. I think your timing is really good on this one - there are a lot of temp hires this time of year.
