I'm on my Christmas break vacation and, due to a slow down at work, it's been extended in this week as well. But this nice break has not stopped a one time dream, turned nightmare the other night.

Well, I guess this is going to reveal the controversial type of work I'm in. Really. Some people don't care or mind, others mock me. So I normally keep it on the down low and just say I work in an office. Which I do.
Anyways, in my nightmare, everything was all dandy up until I found myself at a work similar to where I actually work, except I can see the people the autodialer calls for me. I boy picks up and the study I'm on allows kids to participate. I ask the boy if he's interested in answering a few simple questions and he agrees. But then this horrid, frightening demon appears out of this black vortex behind the boy. It startles me so bad that I jolt awake and the scary feeling lingers for a few minutes.
This job I'm at is stressful, unfulfilling and a damper on my social life. Plus, I've been told I care too much about the respondents and not aggressive enough at keeping them on the line. My self esteem and confidence has taken a huge hit over the years and the only thing that is masking that is it's giving more strength and a perspective about the type of person I am.
I don't feel I belong nor believe in the corporate world. I want to be an artist, illustrator, climatologist and continue to be there for my kid more often after school.
I have a lot of resentment towards my job that is not family friendly in the least bit. I've been guilt tripped and scolded for having to cancel a shift because my daughter had to go to the hospital.

It can't hurt to look around and apply for other jobs, if your current job is unhealthy for you. Nothing to lose by trying to find a new job, only possibly something to gain. IMO you don't really need any "signs" to start to looking, just trust your instinct. If your current job is unhealthy for you, that is good enough reason to start looking and applying around.

It would be great if you can figure out what you would rather do for a career and head toward that, even if in the tiniest way. Do you want to be a climatologist? Try to get a secretarial position at a community citizen science org. Or if you want to head toward art and illustration, try being a model in a figure drawing class.

I would definitely suggest looking into finding a new job if this one is unhealthy for you. It seems to be causing you a lot of stress based on what you said. Also, they should not be scolding you for cancelling your shift due to an emergency where your child is in the hospital. That is ridiculous.
