Does this sound familiar to anyone--I'm getting interviews and am invited back for second interviews and then all of a sudden there is silence followed by ultimate rejection. This is so frustrating and looking for a job takes so much time and energy. Plus each rejection sends me into a tailspin with me self-doubts and having negativity about my job abilities and competence.

Feeling a bit sorry for myself this afternoon.

I don't know what type of work you do, but it doesn't matter. The unemployment rate is way off because they only count people who are receiving UC benefits. The competition for a job is really high so don't take it to hard. The other thing is what is called affirmative action. Your right in assuming it's rejection. I used to have to do 5 work searches a week after a year I started running out of places to apply. I done them all in one day and put it out of my mind the rest of the week. Keep at it something will come to you .
Thanks for this!

On those occasions when I haven't gotten the job, I have politely emailed the recruiter or hiring manager for some feedback. While i don't also get a response, there have been times when I have. You may want to try that.

During my interview, I always ask for their business cards so that I have their contact information.

Why did you do that? Usually if they don't get back to you, it means they didn't consider you as a candidate.

Yes, searching for a job is a pain in the neck. I searched for a job for 4 months to no avail. Now I'm taking a hiatus. It sounds silly, but I got really tired sending resumes and especially filling forms.

You're correct in that if I don't get a call back it'll mean that I didn't get the call back. But I'd like to know why. Sometimes it's because my personality didn't fit with their culture. Others it could be how I answered questions. I use this feedback to improve and prepare myself for the next interview.

Like I said before, I don't always get the feedback I'm looking for but it's been higher than I would have expected. Probably around 30% or so. 1 out of 3 interviews isn't too bad.

Oh! OK, that makes sense. I don't think I would like to hear why they didn't consider my resume. I just move on. But good strategy I think if you tolerate that.

Sometimes it's not great to hear. The way I see it is that if one company won't hire me for a given reason, there are many others that feel the same too.

I would suggest to practice interviewing with someone you trust and have them give you feedback. Interviewing sucks but I try to ask questions that highlight what problems they have and I construct my answers so that it demonstrates how I can fix the problems that they have.
