I work full time and have a part time doctorate on the go, plus trying to keep going day by day with CPTSD, GAD, and at the moment fighting my way through a major depressive period. All this is very draining, consequently I have to prioritise and while I'm just about keeping on top of work (just about) and a minimum of self care, cooking, washing clothes/dishes (eventually) etc, the house is falling apart and it's getting me down as it just feels like I can't keep on top of things but I'm starting to lose stuff under piles of crap. Plus it's also making me even more isolated socially as I would also be embarrassed to have anyone around (not that I tend to invite people around but this is another barrier to doing so).
Does anyone get help with cleaning? (I mean professional help). I'm toying with the idea but also embarrassed to let anyone in or see the mess I'm in and don't like my privacy/space being disturbed. How do you handle this? |

Carmina, if I could afford it, I would so get help with cleaning. I have had the same problem that you are having. Although right now, I can't justify it.
I think you have to just bite the bullet and get over the embarrassment. I mean, that's why they are there, to clean, you know? My SIL used to clean before having the cleaners come over and I was always like, WHY? What is the point? I am also the same about my privacy/space being disturbed. So much so that I don't even call my apartment maintenance if I can help it. But maybe you will feel better once your place is clean? Seesaw

How about just trying a cleaning service/person once and see how it goes and then decide if you want to continue? Sometimes I get hung up on a decision because I'm taking too long a view. Just giving it a try wouldn't feel so scary to me as just trying it one time to see if it helped me feel better and made my life a little easier/more manageable. If it does, then great, if not, you've not committed to anything more than a one-shot try.

If you can afford it, my understanding is that cleaners aren't too judgemental. As far as paperwork clutter, I cannot tell you the amount of people that I personally know that fall into these moments. One of my friends told me about bags filled and stuck into a closest for a later project. Have another friend that told me about the Mr. Clean magic erasers that her occassional cleaning service uses. She went that route after becoming a widow and found herself stuck in a rut. Life happens.
