My current client is an entitled spoiled bratt. She is usually nice, but she did lash out at me a few times in the few months that I was with her.
She got upset with me for not talking to her enough one time. I’m shy & introverted & it’s very difficult to make conversation with someone who’s dumb with very limited interests. I tried though. She was extremely rude to me one time by telling me to go clean & to stop being on my phone rudely like I was her servant. I do a lot for her. I cook, clean & drive her around. She told me that she wanted someone else to take my place & that she was going to complain to the manager. I did a lot for her. I pick her up from work, I cook & clean for her & take her to appointments too. I was recently told that I will be working with 3 different guys now. I have worked with 2 of them before & they are easy going guys who mostly keep to themselves. They never expected me to talk to them that much unlike this bratt. This lady is middle aged, but she acts like a bratty teenager at times. I should’ve requested a new client after the first time that she disrespected me. She only apologized to me after I texted her mom. Her mom apologized to me. I told the managers too, but they didn’t care that she was rude to me at all. I was ignored. They just told me that I’m not a good fit for her & that I ‘overwhelmed’ her, lol. She overwhelmed me. I’m so glad that I won’t need to deal with her anymore in a few days. One guy is a new client. I hope that he won’t end up giving me a hard time. So far only other women have had an attitude towards me for some odd reason at times, even when they seemed to gave liked me at first, weird! Guys are usually nicer & more neutral towards me as clients. Weird! |

It doesn’t sound like it worked out. Hopefully your new clients are a better fit.
Honestly since these people are in need of a care giver and have probably pretty high level of ASD it’s probably expected that there would be challenges. If there was no challenges and they had no difficulties, they’d not need a caregiver. I’d try not to think of your clients as “dumb” or “brats”. It’s subjective. And not very fair since you made a choice to work with vulnerable population Good luck with new clients |

I honestly feel that most of the clients do know what’s appropriate & inappropriate, but they tend to use their disability as an excuse to be rude & inconsiderate as they see us as their servants who don’t deserve any respect or consideration, ugh. |

Also if they were very high functioning, they’d not need caregivers. They clearly need the help |

I think that things would go better for you if you went in determined to not think of your clients negatively. You use a lot of derogatory terms that make you come across as thinking you are better than your clients. I certainly hope if I ever need help I wouldn't get someone who thought of me as you do your clients. They need help because they have illnesses and not because they are misbehaving. The behaviors are exactly why you are there and if you can't tolerate the behaviors then maybe you should find another job.
I worked in psychiatric care as well as nursing homes and home health. I know it's not easy. But your attitude can make it a whole lot easier or a whole lot harder and it's the one thing you can control in that sort of job.

Maybe, maybe not. The clients that I have now are much easier to deal with thankfully.
