Having such a hard time right now not using. I have in the past used pills, alcohol and marijuana. I don't have access to grass right now tho.

AA doesn't work for me, been there, done that. I've been nearly clean a year. I just forgot how to function without a drug. I'm in this slump and it seems to me that the only way out of it is to use again. AGH!

glad u shared, cherry. i hope this too shall pass. try to get busy to get your mind off it. that may help. i used to mop floors to stop thinkin' bout it and they were so clean you could eat off them! fast forward 20 years sober and it takes a crowbar to get me up and mop!
just reread your post and a PS, you don't have to set yourself up for using by thinking the "only way out is to use". you do have a choice. keep us posted...we care.

AA always says to "take it a day at a time." Well, a day was too long for me, so I took it a minute at a time. That worked well for me. Maybe it will for you too. Anyone can go a whole minute without using. Then another minute, then another. Pretty soon, it adds up to a whole day!!!

I stayed REALLY busy. Like Madisgram said, I mopped the floor, washed walls, you name it, I did it. My house was the cleanest in town. But it really HELPED me to stay clean/sober. Last July, I had 17 years clean/sober - by the Grace of God and AA. I have to admit that I haven't gone to meetings in quite awhile - I'm disabled and those chairs KILL my back. I can't sit that long.

So, I stay busy here at home and I don't even THINK about booze or pills anymore. It never enters my mind to get high. If you've been clean almost a year, it should be coming close to easing up on you too --- pretty soon you won't be thinking about it either. I asked God to take away my cravings -- and He DID!! Can you believe that??? It was as simple as that - I just asked and it happened.

Best of luck to you -- and keep on keepin on. You are doing too good to throw it all away. God bless. Hugs, Lee

It may not feel that way, but congrats at being sober and clean for nearly a year!
You've allready got some good advices and I agree with them. In Holland these days, (new year) is a lot of attention and tips for drinking not or less.
These cravings will pass. You could go out, for a walk. Drink 2 glasses of water and put your mind on something else. Cleaning the house, working out, looking to a good movie... For me a walk works, and litteraly get out of the situation. If there is booz and I get tempted, I always have my common sense and my legs to get away from it.
Best wishes!

cherrygash, the other members have some good tips. Congrats on almost a year. For me the first year was the hardest to make it through. Now I've made it through 5 years and its a lot easier. I don't do AA either but I like a lot of their sayings and some of the steps make sense to me. Remember, "this too shall pass." You'll be better once you come out the other side.
