I feel silly about saying I'm addicted to a dish and not make it seem like I'm over- exagurating.. But this craving makes me go insane. I can only have a certain dish once a week because it is a little bit expensive (round 10 dollars) but it's healthy so i don't worry about eating too much. However, I am obsessed with this. I don't really want to eat anything BUT it. It's really all I can think about, all I really want to talk about.. This all sounds extremely silly, but it is true.. It's an extremely strong craving, my body is yearning for this dish and I heard somewhere that food cravings sometimes come from what your body needs or wants? I think that perhaps this is healthy and very good and I don't have the best diet so my body feels almost addicted to it because it wants that nutrition? I have no idea, I feel crazy thinking this way.. and literally very restless without that dish!!

The more I think about it the more I want it. I just had it yesterday, I wont be having it again until next week. The thought literally makes me want to cry.. I don't understand this! It's just food!!!!!!

Not sure that strong carvings actually fall under the same category as addictions.....

Merriam-Webster's Definition of addiction:
Quote:
: compulsive need for and use of a habit-forming substance (as heroin, nicotine, or alcohol) characterized by tolerance and by well-defined physiological symptoms upon withdrawal; broadly : persistent compulsive use of a substance known by the user to be harmful
Craving:
Quote:
: an intense, urgent, or abnormal desire or longing
Definitely not the same definition......definitely a very strong craving you are having for good healthy food....this is a very healthy & good thing.

You said it was healthy, is the only reason you're not eating it on a regular basis because of the cost? Can you make it yourself, or learn how to make it yourself, to cut down on the cost of eating it?

If you have an issue with food, if you eat what you're craving for a few days in a row, your body can get so sick of it and then you might not crave it for a fairly long time.

Do you have any other things you feel addicted to, or is it just this one thing?

In our society we can get addicted to things like salt, fat, and sugar pretty easily. But you said what you like is healthy, so I don't know!

Foods are one of my weaknesses. When I was younger (age 8 - 13) I ate rice everyday multiple times a day and never got sick of it. I've just gotten attracted to other foods. I've eaten one thing so many times before that I've made myself sick.

I've NEVER really liked the taste of sugar unless in soft drinks. I used to hate chocolate and now I hate most candy, and dessert.

Besides certain foods, I can't stop drinking coca cola. I've tried a hundred times but can't (i drink it even when it makes me feel sick) and I'm addicted to the internet as well.

We all have our emotional crutches, stuff that keeps us feeling "safe" or "good". Food can be an emotional support of some sort.

Maybe talk to a dietician, see what options you might have to change up your routine so you can still have the stuff you like, but maybe in different dosages/moderation?

Well this particular dish my father has kept on just a weekly time basis. If I ask for it any day other than Friday he says no. This is because it is particularly expensive and I'm certain he is aware I get way too attached to certain foods. For this one in particular I'd forget when I had it last, even if it was only two days before, and will need and beg for us to go out and get another.

As for making it myself, we ARE in the process of doing it, however it is slightly more complicated than anything else I've ever made so I haven't gotten around to doing that yet.

coca cola can be addictive. i'm thinking it stems from the caffine in it. know friends that when they tried to stop had bad headaches and withdrawal symptoms. they usually drank them too much every day.
as for certain dishes, i get this too. eat the same thing over and over and don't tire from it for a while. then i stop and go to something else to eat over and over. sometimes i believe that i eat the dish cause my body needs something that exists in that dish. peanuts suggest a body needs more potassium for example. so i do believe this plays a part in the craving. other dishes i don't know why it happens to me too. usually tho it's something healthy so i don't mind.
when i worked and lived alone, i'd make stew with everything in it on sunday-meat, veggies, etc. so it was easy to just pop it in the microwave and i'd eat it all week!

Yeah, I also believe that my body needs something that is in the food I eat, and it needs a lot of it so its craving it like mad. The dish I have basically has all four food groups in it. I know it's not necessarily a bad thing but without it I can get really anxious.

I drink multiple glasses of coke a day, and so does my Dad. We've both tried stopping as we look to healthier eaten as we get older but it never works. Maybe it lasts for a day or two and my Dad will buy some more and everything is forgotten.

I try to take a daily multi-vitamin but I forget and I find swallowing pills really difficult. Blood work.. I have vasovagal trypanophobia which is an extreme fear of needles so bad that I faint. Needles or anything of the sort I can barely deal with so I try to avoid it as much as possible.
