Huge Congratulations Sparrow. Your story really inspires me. I'm almost done rehab (for the fourth time) and hope that it really is the end of my old life and the start of a new beginning.

Great going!!! When I read statements like yours I feel the deepest, deepest respect and admiration. What an accomplishment! And boy, do I know. It's just so happy to hear from folks like you. And it may well be that you're still not free of that terrible attraction, like most of us. Which of course makes your achievement all the more incredible and praiseworthy. KEEP IT UP!!! And, of course, if you ever, ever need help in continuing to hew to the line you know where to get it. Right here. Love yourself. Feel good about yourself. Relax. You're worth it! Take care.

Thanks ya'll......

As I sit and write to my peers, I sit not as a power of example, but as an example of the power of God . To humble myself before God, in the morning on my knees, paves the days way with human interaction.

This is what has worked for me, one day at a time, for a few thousand days. But first, the beauty of AA.

In AA, there are fruitcakes, nuts, buttfaces and some pretty good people. When I first started going, it was the last resort. They (aa'er's) said, "when nobody else wants yaa, your just right for AA". Oh my goodness gracious! And I asked "are yaa sure"?, they said "yep". They spoke honestly, and darned if they did'nt mean what they said(and did'nt say it toooo mean, hehe).

I was raised on old school AA in balmer city. There is a liquor store on almost every corner and crackheads and dopefiends took the streets over when the sun went down. I did a 28 day court ordered stay, at a closed down, half boarded up elementary school on the west side of town that, was converted into a treatment center. At least it was free .

..........................

....and I'll close with this (how many times yaa heard that one!), with all the work on myself that I have done, the BEST thing AA gave me, was the chance "to make my own peace, with my own God(of MY understanding), in my own time"................

AA is NOT religious.....we are spiritual.....

Religion is for those who fear going to hell, spirituality is for those of us who lived in hell............

Religious man sittin' in church thinkin' bout' fishin'
Spiritual man fishin' thinkin' bout' God...............

A guy asked me the other day, "yaa go to church"?
I replied, "if I gotta go to church to find God, then everywhere I goes is church"..........hehe

.......luv ya'lls........thanks again..........sparrow

......one day at a time

just had to pop in to remark, ygrec. for those of us in AA we need to basically change many things about ourselves. weeding out the good-"assets"-from the bad-"liabilities"-and striving to change the bad to good. by following the 12 steps of recovery that "terrible attraction" doesn't exist anymore like it once did. we are on another track. knowing that alcohol for us isn't a "just reward". the longer we stay sober the easier it gets. but vigilence is the key to never return to that hell on earth. if we have a grateful heart for our sobriety, continue to practice abstinence, and help the newcomer our focus changes from a compulsion and attraction to freedom.

lmao Yeah it's a military town. All drive through booze too! That always made being an active alcoholic mother of three a little easier. They would hand me my bag and three suckers for the little ones, lol. Thanks, Albus Dumbledore is the quote.
