Yaaaay! Really, I have no desire to drink or drug today.

I've think I've discovered why it was all crazy. If you haven't caught my posts else where, here's what:

While in the middle of our latest drinking binge, I got put on bipolar meds. Cool, okay.

The other day it hit me that when I was drinking, I'd get in a manic like drinking frenzy, the more I drank, the more I wanted to drink. It had a hypomanic like edge. I think alcohol was negating the Lamictal stabilizer which fueled a Prozac manic like high. It is very addictive.

Now that I got away from it, I can see what happened. I never knew, but I know now. I can't drink successfully, especially on bipolar meds.

What does it mean to "drink successfully"? I lose control so quickly - one margerita with lunch and im staggering out of the restaurant. Its really embarrassing.

I get so sick if I drink on meds... sick to my stomach and headaches. That was all the incentive I needed.
I'm glad you figured it out and are sticking it out.
Kudos!

Drink successfully....if I knew, I wouldn't be an alcoholic

I hear it in meetings often.

i am so mad at society for all the commercials on tv and bars in the city i grew up in which was one reason i started to drink as a teenager, i'm 54 now, but you're right what is and how do you drink responsibly? so many things happen that are bad from binge drinking and just regular drinking too.i mean on a regular basis.people self medicate with it i guess, but whose to say what is right pills or beer and alcohol. i even worked a bar for awhile and would never do it again. watching those people drink and then get in their cars really scared me. well i guess if i had the chance to do what i wanted i would have chosen drinking, but after my diagnosis i was on a pshyc ward and have been on meds which don't give me blackouts or the bedspins either.

I tried to drink "successfully" during getting clean from drugs and it did nothing but set me back further emotionally. I felt like **** and it all together wasn't worth it. Maybe someday but not now, at least for me.

Last night was hard! My partner still drinks, but she's locked herself into her room to drink and stay apart. We are in separation. I was feeling "off", tired I guess- didn't sleep well the night before.

Then our body is craving to feel better, but our minds interpret it as needing a drink, but I know enough to realize that what my body was craving and what alcohol feels like are 2 different animals, so I laid there wishing but not going. If I would of left the house, like when my son wanted a ride to a friends house, my resolve would of melted. But they canceled so I went to sleep.

I love the next morning when you can get up and say 'God I'm glad I didn't drink last night".

You made it through Halloween!
That is a neat feeling to wake up and be able to congratulate yourself on your will-power and success.

Last night was close. I was actually holding an unopened beer! My partner drinks, so we always have alcohol in the house. I was feeling out of sorts, agitated, restless....lack of sleep? Caffeine? Meds? Bipolar?

Anyhow, I just couldn't pop the top so I gave it back, then went for a 3 mile walk/run. I ate something then felt better about it. I'm so grateful that I didn't open up the beer and took a yucky drink.

Having alcohol where you live can be really tough! Do you have some Plan B suggestions for when you're triggered?

I noticed that about the only time I feel triggered is when I feel bad, like hungry, achy, stressed, tired, strained....

The body is craving relief, and I know it's not the relief supplies by drinking, but food, sleep, pain relievers....

She sits in her room with the door closed, and I've practically live in the living room. So I'm not exposed unless I go and visit.

The other day I went for a jog and felt better.
