I posted this in General but I need more support than I'm getting there, so I'm gonna post it here. I've been talking with Chalm about it and its a huge help to be able to vent with her, so I'm bring it to the rest of my core support team here. Here's my post from General:

</font><blockquote><div id="quote"><font class="small">Quote:</font>
Today went like any other day at work, busy in the mornings with draws and then starting on results as they came in from our lab and 2 others, and the occassional hospital. Its a lot of work....getting the charts, writing any applicable medications, comparing old results with current ones. When I was hired they said that the lab duties usually end in the afternoon and then I'd help the front office girls. I help the front as much as I can and then get called away to draw someone, or write up an order etc.

Today our general boss was there and she made a comment about my work taking longer, and that we'd have to figure out how to fix that. I asked her later if I'm doing ok and she said yeah, its just taking longer. I tried explaining to her what all I do and she said "we've done it before, so we'll have to find a way." So I was feeling stressed anyway, and then at 4 she pulled me into the break room and said since I'm not a medical assistant, its not cost effective to keep me there for the whole day, since they've brought in a medical assistant to help with the desk and do nurse visits.

So my options are, work from 7am to noon and just be part time, get off at noon and go to another site and help with clerical stuff, or possibly apply for a job within the company as a lab processor. I don't have details on that job yet so I don't know, but I did want a similar position with an old job, so I'm not ruling that out.

My boyfriend said whatever I decide will be ok. We move in together next month so if I'm making less money it'll be alright, since we'll be splitting bills, but I'd be just making it again.

So I don't know whats gonna happen. This is exactly why I always expect the other shoe to drop.

</div></font></blockquote><font class="post">

I'm really sad. I don't even want to go in this morning.

I'm so sorry things aren't working out as you had hopped. But this sounds like it's entirely about their poor planning / expectations & that it's not about you or your capabilities as a phlebotomist at all.

If you really like the phlebotomy part of the job and the people there, it might make sense to stay & look for something part time in the afternoons. That would also keep you current on your resume so that in a year you could look for a full time position?

If that doesn't feel like an option, how would you feel about doing lab work full time? Would it bore you or be challenging?

They don't want to loose me as their phlebotomist, so they're gonna send me to a site in the afternoons helping with data entry and scanning, so that I won't leave the doc's office. Guess I'm wanted and needed after all. Changes at work They just have a budge to consider.

I don't know if I'd want to do data entry and scanning if I were a phlebotomist? Not very related? I'd be worried about another shoe too, about their looking for a "faster" phlebotomist or whatever they're looking for a faster one of and then pushing you into just office work. Have you any idea about the relative salaries, whether they're getting a "deal" with you doing office work?

They'll be paying me the phlebotomy wages in the afternoons, so its actually more expensive. They could get someone fresh out of high school to do that. They're taking pains to find something so I can get my 40 hours because I need full time. They all but begged me not to leave the mornings at the doctor's office. Patients used to wait 2 hours passed their appts, and now they might wait ten minutes passed, if I have a hard stick. They're so happy with my work, and the patients are raving about me, that they scrambled to find a way to give me my hours so I wouldn't leave.

Also, where I'm going to help with office stuff, they have a draw station, so I'll be available for hard sticks, or if someone calls out. Its actually looking better and better to me. I've been getting SO tired after work. Its hard to work full time with an autoimmune disease. So this will give me relaxing afternoons on my bum at my phlebotomy pay. I'll also be learning yet another skill.....all doc's offices are going to this computerized scanning system, so its just another skill to put on my resume. Its computer software I'll need to learn.

So its not at all them trying to push me out of phlebotomy, its them loving me so much that they realized their oops in planning and are scrambling to keep me happy so I don't leave the company.

My afternoons will also be flexible, which my boss knows about my grandma, so by doing this, I can take afternoons off when need me. I'm not required to work the afternoons, its just an opportunity for me to get my full time pay. Pretty cool.....seems like most companies would be like sorry!!! We've gotta cut back!! Hi Ray, I am sorry I was not here to support you yesterday. I wish I would have read your post.

It sounds like it might work out? I know it is not exactly what you hired on for...

Again, I am sorry I missed your post yesterday, I am not sure where my head was....

hugs and positive thoughts....

Thank you ATG!!!

Had my computer training today, its complicated! I'll be doing all the "touch charting" for the doctor's who's offices are all automated. Everything gets scanned into a "touch chart" and it all has to go into the right place. Pretty sweet. Changes at work
