Has anyone had experience with DXM abuse/use? My son (18) drank an entire bottle of delsym with is straight DXM and he took 4 cold capsules with DXM at same time. He is also on cymbalta, depakota, risperdal, and klonopin bc he tried to kill himself. He has had the hiccups for 3 days/24 hours a day and nothing will stop them. Could this be from the DXM. I also read that hiccups is a sign of renal failure. Any help would be appreciated.

the above link should be of lots of help as to information of the psychoactive effects of DXM and why and how it is used as such, as well as side effects.

not to worry you but with your son being on those other meds, i wonder if his dxm use is not a cocktail for disaster. i do not add any drugs to my mix unless i ask my pdoc first. your son is fragile right now and it wouldn't help for him to tip the scales against his favor. good luck and hope this helps. maybe a call to his pdoc would be a good idea regardless of whether his hiccups go away or not.

anxietygirl, hi...

I wanted to check in and ask how you and your son are doing...
It may be a very good idea to call his physician about the DSM he took.
Mixing OTC meds with prescribed drugs can cause some serious problems. At the very least, his pdoc needs to know about his taking it...it will help him with your sons' treatment protocol.

My very best wishes to you. Please remember to take care of yourself, too.
