I am coming to realise that I think I have a phobia of going to sleep. When the show I am watching ends, I get anxiety. When I was a kid, I dreaded going to sleep. When 10pm(yeah I know lucky kid) came, I felt sooo...defeated? I don't know where this comes from. Maybe my hell of a childhood(the young years). I noticed it tonight and am claiming it. No wonder I put it off til dawn.

Hello Lauren,

Welcome to pc. You know I think that sleep anxiety is part of the anxiety disorder.

I have the same anxiety and I know others also have it. I'm still learning about all of the little issues that are the "cells" which make up the whole, just like brain cells make up the brain and other cells make up other organs and so on.

There are even times when I am afraid and anxious of my partner getting up in the morning, yet I totally adore him; I can't explain that at all.

Try to calm your self and use the techniques you have learned to settle your anxiety, they really will help.

hi kitty chanel,

i used to have fierce anxiety about going to sleep. I know its so frustrating and scary. i tried a variety of techniques: leaving tv or radio on at a low buzz, leaving the light on, not sleeping with covers, sleeping on my back without a pillow, and finally sleeping with my mom. Eventually it went away on its own but sometimes I wake up terrified. THen I'll check my Iphone for emails, facebook postings, the news, etc. I also now have a cat. So when I wake up I usually see a cat staring in my face, and it's difficult to feel very scared when the cat is looking at me like i need to chill a little!
Thanks for this!

Yes a kitty staring me in the face would ground me
Though my girl doesn't do that..she'll either sleep under the covers or by my side. It is frustrating and scary and I think it may have been a part of for years and I thought of it as insomnia...or part of insomnia..I tend to leave the TV on and watch it when I don't want to go to the bed..but I can't sleep with sound on(I have to wear earplugs actually because I am a light sleeper)...so I put it off...what gets me to sleep is the meds..I take Benadryl and/or Xanax and that calms me down so I can sleep. Lately, it's been a different story waking up. I feel scared as heck, have nightmares...I am so sick of being nauseous and terrified as soon as I wake up. It affected the other end today and I got a surprise in my pants when I was watching TV on the sofa.

I'm sorry about this. I hope you can talk to a counsellor about this.
I turn my fan on (no pun intended) when I go to sleep. This distracts me from getting all tense. The scent of lavender really helps calm me down. Maybe you could try it. There are several things you could do to calm down. I heard that laughing and yoga helps
