Yesterday i was blah and tired and mildly depressed, but come nighttime i was wired up on anxiety, which led to a not good sleep despite me performing my 'bedtime routine' as i call it, waking up a lot, now i've been awake for almost 2 hours and am just vibing off anxiety. I'm having a hard time breathing, my limbs are tingling and numb, my mind is racing and jumping all over the place, i have this horrible feeling of impending doom.. and so i've been trying to do the things i've been taught to do to calm anxiousness.. but with no luck. ARGH!

Sorry, just had to get that out. Anyone have any suggestions on how to cope? Mine aren't working!

Ugh. Really sorry you're having these unpleasant physical feelings because of anxiety (((((((onmyway)))))) I get that too. Can you go outside for a brisk walk? When I'm feeling edgy and jittery as you describe, I find that doing something physical with that nervous energy is helpful.

onmyway, been there a lot myself and I wish I had better advice but my late night and morning freakouts are the ones I haven't had much luck with. Just know I'm with ya.

Thank you Cyran0 and sundog ,you guys are AWESOME, as usual. I went for a brisk 30m walk this morning and have been exercising on and off today and had to do some errands, so i walked the distance instead of taking the bus. My anxiety is still there, but not where it was lastnight/this morning, so i guess.. yay... for some progress. I've had to work my RUMP off using so many coping techniques to keep it under control, though. I will definitely be looking forward to bedtime tonight!

Thanks for this!

Sometimes just writing down everything that you're thinking about and just let it stream out, it'll help. then just burn the paper. its entertaining. also maybe if you like bubble baths, its really nice. when i need to relax, that's what i do.

Hi, onmyway hope your sleep goes better tonight. I have similar anxiety troubles before bed sometimes I get tingling sensations in my head that freak me out and cause rapid heart beat and that is all I hear because it is quiet otherwise when trying to sleep. So i relate to your experience. Just try mantras to start with, when you have an anxious thought focus on one positive word and repeat it in your mind, or if you have to say it out loud. This has helped me sometimes the only way I can clear my head of negative thoughts. For the physical symptoms, if they do not improve, get up and walk around a bit, drink water and maybe even journal or read a bit before trying to go back to sleep. Hope it helps and everything improves! Take care.

Thank you everyone. The last two nights i have slept better, but it's because i implemented a fairly strict bedtime routine that involves a lot of calming techniques, and takes like 1.5 hours to complete! But hey, if it works...

lxegirl, that is exactly part of what i do at night, journalling, or more aptly named free writing, i just write write write whatever is going on inside my head at the moment, get it out on paper. I also use it during the day if i feel the need. It is definitely useful.

Thank you sjcart, for the ideas! Lately i've been using a quote from loise hay's book 'you can heal your life' - 'i approve of myself, i approve of myself, i ..' when the negativity or anxiousness creeps in and just repeat that over and over. It tends to work pretty well, allthough nothing works 100 percent of the time, so yes, there definitely needs to be other things in there too!
