Hi everybody! HAPPY FRIDAY!

I think it helps to laugh at our anxiety, it lets us realize that it is not going to kill us. So, I was wanting everyones most embarassing or funny stories that have to do with panic attacks. I will start..........

I was flying to visit my mom for a holiday (can't remember which one) and I HATE to fly. Well, I was on the plane, the plane was already late so people were already aggitated and BAM I get a full blown panic attack. I started crying and yelling to stop the plane and let me out, they actually turned the plane around to let me out, (imagine how mad the other passagers were). So as they are turning the plane around the crew is trying to calm me down cuz I am crying. I mentioned that I was going to visit my mom and I do admit I look kinda young but I am 28 and they must have thought I was a child or something cuz they were rubbing my back saying "do you want us to call your mommy for you" and I just rolled with it and said yeah, and started crying even harder. They thought I was some kids who never flew before and got spooked. When I look back at it, I am so embarrassed and I laugh, even though I feel bad for the poor other passangers who were already late. Or yeah, I also fainted on a plane trip one time cuz I mixed my plane panic medicine the Dr. gave to me to fly with and alcohol (I was gonna make sure I did not get a PA this time). Well this was a very bad idea cuz even though I was not panicing, the mixture made me very sick so I had to go use the restroom to throw up and on the way the mixture also made me faint. So next thing I know, I am in the middle of the isle with O2 on and ice on my forehead! hee-hee. Embarassing but funny! apologies for my bad spelling!

Neat thread - and you are right - it is helpful to be able to laugh about things we have done during a panic attack. (BTW - I wont GET on a plane - so kudos to you ! )

My funniest story - went to a HUGE party - News Years Eve . Totally informal, country, roasted pig, country band - having a blast ! Needed to find the ladies room, only to learn there was ONE toilet in the whole place (it was a truck terminal's garage). I made my way through the people (had to be about 200), and found a LONG line for the one toilet - along with alot of drunks acting really obnoxious. As I was waiting - get more and more freaked out - some joker barfed all over himself. WELL - I have a phobia about vomiting, so I took off running (the best you can run thru a packed building of partiers). I came to a door way to get out into the largest room where everyone was, and some guy decided to block my way........on purpose................NOT SMART ! I barrelled through him like he wasnt there - knocking him flat on the floor, and literally stepped ON him to get outta there. ( I was never invited back to another party there - I wonder why???? Well - I guess I know why - that was the dude that owned the place. )

Ok folks.......share a laugh with us !

i have no idea why i chose Neiman-Marcus...it was just as crowded as the football game. i finally went back to the Hyatt and had drinks and watched the game, by myself, in the lobby. Let's laugh at PA's-Embarassing Moments

Hi folks,

OOOOOOOh. I still have a long way to go, cos I can't imagine laughing at a panic attack. Not easy.

Funny panic attacks? Same problem, I have always felt so ill that I'm on another planet. I wouldn't even know what embarrassment is when I'm in that spot.

I do know about that thing where you have to go from someplace to someplace else though. It's like the movement just has to happen, and then it settles the panic a little.

Panic attacks? Not funny for me.

Maybe other's have found this thread a bit challenging for the same reason?

Cheers, M

I'm with you Myzen. My panic attacks usually are followed by a descent into deep depression attacks. I don't think I can remember any funny moments. Nor embarrassing.Hmmm. I'll have to ponder that one a lil closer! Let's laugh at PA's-Embarassing Moments

Myzen and Dottie..........I think those of us who posted might have done so because NOW we are able to look back and see that we did things that to us are NOW funny. When the above happened to me - I didnt think it was funny at all - I was in shear terror, running for my life so to speak. However, now knowing that I cannot "outrun" my brain (thats where the panic attacks are)........to me knocking down that huge man IS funny to me.

I hope that you both will get to a point that you can look back at what was a horrible time , and see the humor. I think it is part of healing, and getting better.

i agree with you, Parker. it wasn't the least bit funny when i did the big exit. but afterwards, when i thought of how i must have looked, decked out in Oklahoma Sooner Red and crawling and jumping over fans, Texas and Oklahoma.....how could i not laugh? the Texas fans wear bright orange and there went this tiny red dot...over their heads, their shoulders, their laps.........outta there!! and it is healing to be able to laugh about all of this. i laugh now at current things that have happened to me. if i didn't have the capacity to laugh at myself and at my disease, i'd be up the proverbial creek without a paddle....

So there I was, in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. It was my favorite museum, geez, they had EVERYTHING as far as I was concerned. Rocks and gems, dinosaur bones, sculpture....... huge rooms to wander through and soak my soul with wonder.

One day a friend and I went to see a new exhibit on ancient Egypt. They had brought an actual tomb, huge rock by huge rock, from Egypt and installed it in the museum, on the main floor over in the right wing. Fascinating.

The last thing I remember is stepping inside the tomb. BLAM I was triggered. Next thing I know I'm in a cold sweat, outside, on the entrance steps, huffin and puffin trying to catch my breath, figure out where I am, etc. For all I know I ran over King Tut himself while stampeding for the door.......

Thanks guys for all the posting and thanks to you Parker10 for pointing out that we are laughing now, definaltly not when the funny events were taking place. I by no means am trying to say panic attacks are fun or funny. I think I said before, I would not wish this disorder on my worst enemy, it just helps to laugh, after the PA, and share with others. Thanks agian, Parker10, you said exactly what I wanted to say. I apologize to anyone who got the wrong idea about this thread

I posted this in the Phobia thread, but it makes me giggle nonetheless.

Now, for starters, Im not weirded out by bugs, at all. Bugs are neat to me for the most part. EXCEPT:
I am terrified, absolutely petrified of cockroaches.
*shiver

even the WORD cockroaches makes me cringe.
This is not exactly a panic attack, but I was panicking a bit haha
Funny story - a couple of months ago I found this bug in my kitchen. it LOOKED like a roach.(my wanting to freak out brain probably made it look more like a roach than it actually did) I looked further and found more of them, a whole bunch of them*gahhhh* I LOST it.
cleaned everything out, threw out all my food!!!
Everyone at my apartment was trying to convince me that it was NOT a roach. Well, there was no telling me any different.
Amid screeches, and moaning Oh My Gods, I
VACCUMED my WHOLE kitchen from top to bottom, bleached the whole kitchen, wiped it down, bleached the cupboards again, took a shower, came down, still wasnt satisfied, washed the whole kitchen again and had another shower.

The next day I looked the bug up and it turned out to be a very common, not at all dangerous saw tooth grain beetle which had apparently come in with a bag of sugar from the grocery store.. They dont even bite.
heh

I have had funny moments with anxiety lately. Mostly with my memory.

Like today for instance. Oh dear! I was halfway through a sentence and the people i was talking to were waiting for the end of the sentence but I completely forgot what I was talking about. I just could not find the words. I just said something about having a mental blank and then went on to introduce people and forgot my own supervisor/boss's name. oh my gosh! HOW BAD is that! It was kind of funny but also embarrassing especially since I was trying to impress the people. The boss now pobably thinks that I'm the biggest airhead. I guess that's when alot of embarrassng moments happen, at the time we most don't want them to happen.

After entering this post I just read the original post again and realised that this was for panic attacks. Der estee. So I came back to edit my post. That's another embarrassing moment. Not reading the post properly. or perhaps I forgot. lol.

It is funny how panic attacks affect our memory. They also make me really jumpy, like the slightest noise will make me jump out of my chair when I am panic attack mode. I am sure I look funny jumping at small noises!
