Hi,
I don't know if it's from physical or mental exhaustion or what. Kind of pathetic considering I've only worked like 7 days so far, huh? But it feels like my nerves are on overdrive from the time I wake up to get ready for work to the moment I get in the car to go home afterwards. I just want things to go back to the way they were. When I was able to spend days with my family at the beach. We are planning on going this weekend, and if my boss changes my schedule so that I'm working on Saturday, screw it. I'm not going in, d@mmit, I want to spend the day with my family! Does your tension and anxiety just take the life out of you? Work is all I can concentrate on, all day long. I don't want it to affect my schoolwork. I'm sorry if I sound ungreatful or whiny...I don't know what to think. I'm just tired...............I want T right now but don't feel so bad as to "need" her, you know? Does anyone know what I mean?

From what I remember you haven't been working this job for very long. Doing anything new can create anxiety. The one thing all people have a hard time with is Change. And yes, you can get anxious in anticipation, doing, and finalizing the day. And it can be tiring, anxiety can just wipe you out. What you have to learn to do is find a way to just get more comfortable with the routine and the anxiety will ease up. You are after all in a quick service job and are under pressure to hurry up quick and get someone whatever they are asking for. And if I remember you have not been doing this for very long and in training you felt a lot of pressure. Remember learning how to tie your shoe laces? You don't have to think about it now, you just do it. Well that is what your work will end up being like. You will finally get into a rythem and wont have to concentrate so much. It is actually good for your brain to learn how to hum along quickly. This may not be the dream job of your future, but it puts money in your pocket and stimulates your brain and your in motion too, that is always good. Ease up on yourself and try to relax into the rythum of the job, it will come. Open Eyes |

Thanks Open Eyes...........It's weird, I guess. I feel like I cannot relax as long as I'm in the workplace. Not because of the fast-paced environment, I'm starting to get the hang of that now. The reason I feel I can't relax is that I'm constantly worried about the opinions of my coworkers. They are very cliquey and like to talk about other employees behind their backs. I know they're talking about me - if they're talking about everyone else, how could they not be?
Yes I did just start, and the newness is beginning to wear off. But it's the social phobia and paranoia that I cannot shake. Same with school. **** - I'm starting a new school and a new job at the same time. Should be a field day for my nerves in a couple weeks ![]()

No matter where people are there will always be clicks and a bit of a soap opera.
You have to make up your mind not to worry about others talking about you, for all you know they could think your a hot guy, and don't laugh, that does happen. When you get older that stuff doesn't matter on the scheme of things. Glad to hear you are getting into the groove of the job. A new school? Well you will do fine there too, after all, you are going there for yourself, to improve yourself. Just keep yourself busy and don't worry about others, they are just so not important. If they talk, let them, they have nothing better to do. Your doing fine Indie, just keep the forward momentum. Open Eyes ![]() |

Anxiety and then having a panic attack on top of that wears me down from time to time. Going out in public like shopping or attending a self-help meeting sends my body in high alert mode. Then when I come home to unwind, I feel like I just went through some kind of massive ordeal...hard to describe, but I'm fatigued and mentally spent.
I do like to get out and about. It would be nice if it were easier to do. So I do it anyway and I just put up with the anxiety symptoms.

this is to the person who just started a new job and going back to school. Good for you!! Have you thought they might be jealous of you going back to school and holding down a job! That is to be admired. Do not let them get to you besides you go to work to perform a duty and get paid for it, if you do not make any close friends you have the entire world to make new friends. When you get to be my age, you will not care what people say about you that only reflects on their character!! Keep smiling and study!!

coping; what you said.
We get summer students every year where I work, but no one is mean to them. One of the students we just had was great. Today was her last day. It's funny, everyone says the same thing to them in the end. We look them in the eye and smile, and say, "Don't ever come back." Usually we don't have to explain that this is our way of saying "Good luck, work hard in school, and don't end up where we are when you're done." It's really awesome that you're going back to school, and if I knew your situation better, I'd say focus on your school work; if your job takes away from that, and you can afford to, leave it behind. School is your future. And if you're staying, don't worry about those people, just like coping said. Keep your eyes on the prize. I understand what it's like to feel paranoid, that people are talking about you, or even making fun of you. But don't let that stop you from putting your best foot forward. Also recognize that your anxiety makes things look worse than they are. We make our fears come true by obsessing about them. When people see that you're a nice person, anyone who says something bad about you is sticking their foot in their mouth.

Absolutely GAD causes me a lot of fatigue (especially when I start exercising, sometimes I'm tired after five minutes).
Also obsessing over stuff can be exhausting, after all sleep is mostly for your mind not your body.
