Okay, so...about 4 years ago I moved to Phoenix to be with a boyfriend. No friends or family their that I knew AT ALL. Completely different zone. Now that I think about it, a few weeks before I left, a couple of times I would go to eat I would have to do "double swallow" for my food to go down but I never thought anything of it. The same thing happened a few weeks after being in Phoenix. (I moved from Pennsylvania) My bf was in the Marines so I saw him once a month. One day, I went to DQ and got a burger and drink and was eating like normal. I took a bite and choked on it. I thought "okay, maybe it went down the wrong pipe, no biggy" Took another bite, it happened again. I took a drink, it happened again. I went for about..3 months with HARDLY eating or drinking anything. 3 months is all I was down there for. I found that getting up in the morning and eating right away and drinking, I was able to do just fine if I did it quickly. As the day went on, it got worse. I moved back to PA, and then met my now husband. After moving in with him and his family, within 2 weeks it was COMPLETLY gone. Now beings, 3 years later, I was at work and just took a sip of my drink and I choked on it. It's been like that ever since. But this time around, I can swallow food just fine. The thicker the liquid the easier. It doesnt happen everytime though either. It started when I was worried about money for xmas, then my son got put in the hospital for a week, and its just been one stress after the other. Everyone said, it will go away. Well I went to the docs and he put me on Cipralezam. Its helped SOME but not completly. I can chug something down if I wake up in the middle of the night just fine or just in the morning. But again, gets worse. ONLY with liquids.
It sucks SO BAD watching everyone chug a drink and a whole cup of something lasts me a week. Any thoughts or help or ideas?? The other thing is, I did suffer from bad heartburn and was in the process of getting polyps on my gullbladder looked at when our insurance ran out so now I cant do that. I suffer from these acid reflux like symptoms: -trouble swallowing -acid taste in my mouth -sometimes when i yawn i feel like throwing up immediately afterwards -stomach pains with diahrea -heartburn after certain drinks and foods Is it possible it could be that? I work at Subway, and shortly before it started, i was drinking ALOT of soda and eating a meatball sub EVERYDAY sometimes more than once. |

Welcome to PC mrsconfused2012
![]() Regarding your gastrointestinal problems -you should have this looked into...perhaps you need some acid reducing meds or just watch what you eat. I used to take Nexium for heartburn but realized we need a certain amount of acid to digest food and we need acid to process B vitamins. I found great relief by increasing my fiber, watching the foods that aggravate it and what helped me the most was taking Ester C vitamin. Its a buffered vitamin C that makes the stomach more settled. You could ask for a stomach scope to be done to screen for ulcers or reflux acid erosion on your esophagus and have an ENT look at your throat would also be good. When ever someone is having physical symptoms, doctors should rule that out first before assuming its anxiety. One thing that helped my daughter after she choked on a Popsicle was, to remember she won't die if she chokes a little. The throat will tighten up and feel dry if you're too nervous. I hope this resolves soon.

I agree, it really sounds like acid reflux that is affecting your esophagus.
You might try changing your diet after reading about acid reflux, and also adding an over the counter antacid (store brands are much cheaper). Here is one place to read about it :http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/gerd/DS00967 If possible, please see a gastroenterologist so you can be properly diagnosed. |

I agree with the posters above.
(I have GERD myself, which went unnoticed until I developed esophagitis)
