Over the past few days, I have been having more and more anxiety/panic attacks. This morning, I was in Wal-Mart and had a whopper. My pdoc has prescribed klonopin twice a day and once in the middle if I need it. But, I don't like taking medication, although I see the need for it, and have taken it.

Does anyone know why this happens and what to do about it to talk themselves down?

It is as so many have described: sudden urge to run, spinning, panic, fear, heart pounding . . . .

This bites!

Some things I have found that works for me is meds, breath control and Tai Chi Chuan. it takes time but it does help. Tai Chi is a slow moving exercise that helps me to slow down, to breath in a certain way and it massages me as I go through the movements. This may not help anyone else but it helps me.

I think so too... tai chi will help balance your breathing. One common element in anxiety attacks, we tend to hold our breath..making things worse. To be aware of the breath, (like ster suggests) and to breathe deeply enough might even help prevent some terrible attacks (((safe hug)))

Hello Sky,

Thanks for the help. I seem to be having a bit of a set back with depression. Makes anxiety worse. I'm so sick and tired of feeling like this, I could just jump! I get this too.

Pdoc has given me propranolol (I had to ASK him for it...) which helps a bit.

but usually only getting away from the trigger situation and grounding myself helps.

This is going to sound weird but I have some of my worst attacks when I go too walmart. I am starting to think there is something with that store that triggers them. I find assurance in having my cell on me so if I get bad enough I can call someone.

Thank you all for the great ideas.

I have to remind myself about grounding and using CBT. I keep forgetting that I have CONTROL over how the world looks and behaves. New concept and one I don't really get.

Keep them coming. I think this has been good for all of us.
