I've been diagnosed with GAD, SAD, as well as moderate panic disorder.

I'm taking Xanax, up to 6mg a day.

Yesterday, out of nowhere, in a comfortable spot (work), I got this unbelievable chill, teeth chattering freezing although it was over 80 degrees. In addition, every single muscle in my body ached and I thought I was going to pass out. Took Xanax, didn't do a thing.

Got home, had a 104 temperature...Finally got warmed up, but felt like i'd been run over by a truck, but my temperature was normal. Middle of the night last night, same thing.

What the heck could this be?

I've just told my wife a few days ago we're getting a divorce, so there is a huge amount of stress.

I'm thinking it's some sort of stress induced anxiety attack, but I would think the Xanax (and Zoloft) would help that. At this point i'm a bit freaked because part of the Xanax is placebo. I know I have it, I know it works, so i'm calmer. Now, I brought 3 sweatshirts to work, and just trying to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Anyone experience this? Or know what it sounds like? Don't feel sick or anything either.

Thanks!

for FNcrazy,

I also experience physical symptoms due to stress, for me it is a tingling sensation I cannot get rid of. You are smart to bring sweatshirts to work, smart to have an understanding...'i know i have it..' you are coping well. When I have a relationship end, yes, that's when you find your body reacting. Maybe it would help to write more about the divorce, to get it all out? Just a thought. We care about you here.

It was such a crazy thing though, completely debilitating. Can't be just stress can it?

Not sure I can cope with that. I drove home about 30 minutes, should NOT have been driving. Had to focus straight ahead, if I looked to the side, my vision would go black.

I hope there's something medical about it so I can fix it, or else i'm going to need to take a serious crash course in stress relief!

Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it!

Doctor called back...Said nothing psychiatric can cause fever, so it must be a viral infection or something...So, uh, I guess i'll go with that!

I had a similar thing happen to me once. It only happened once and at the time didn't even occur to me to think of stress. I "never" get physically sick so it was very odd to suddenly have a really high temperature and nothing else wrong (but the difficulty concentrating, etc. that a high temp brings) and to have it go away on it's own so quickly too.

Our bodies do funny things sometimes. I don't think it will pursue you but if it does, go visit your doctor, I'm sure we're probably not the only ones this has happened to (not that I put any faith in doctors to necessarily have a clue either but I would find it a little comforting if I at least tried with them).
