Well, I was sitting here thinking and decided to post about one of my very strange (frustrating to my boyfriend) behaviours. In order to control my bedtime/late night panics I MUST no ifs ands or buts about it, MUST have my TV on in order to fall asleep (i generally find myself with insomnia accompanied by/or maybe due to, panic attacks galore if i try otherwise... i was merely wondering if anyone else has any behaviours such as this, or if im a needle in a haystack??? Trust me due to electricity bills it'd be wonderful to fall asleep in quiet, but I cant, as soon as all is quiet my brain starts going and my body and mind are flooded with panic- ithink it may be due to the fact that one night while i tried to sleep quietly, i panicked, and now the TV seems to make my mind drift off into tvland, i mean i barely even look at it at night, i just listen. I think its to avoid the flooding of nighttime thoughts and brain activity, but im unsure if this is a healthy behaviour. lol...

not strange at all. When I have a tv in my bedroom it is one that has a headphone jack in it so that I can sleep to the tv without keeping the whole appartment building up at the same time. The same thing with my boomboxes and sterios.

I go through headphones like mad - about 4-5 a month but it is worth it.

I do the same thing..if my tv is turned off then thoughts just spin around in my head and I cannot sleep..I put a channel on that is really boring to me(so I won't keep watching)and go to sleep..if it helps us sleep, then I think that it is a good thing... Strange behaviour??

I'm the same, If everything is turned off, I see shadows and hear noises "everywhere " it drives me crazy, but what I do sometimes is just before bed, I write down anything that comes to my mind, I seem to sleep better when some of my thoughts are in paper and leave the brain.

I think this behavior is very common among the mental health field as well as with many over worked or stressed out people..... we all like to have a little soft sound to fall a sleep with.

Enjoy!! - the comfort and peace that the TV gives you.... btw, I often fall asleep to the "Touched by An Angel" CD, I love the music.

My dad has the same problem, he turns the lighting button (or whatever it's called) on the TV down so the screen is black but he can still hear it. We also had a TV that he used to set the "sleep" setting on so it would turn off after awhile (ie after he fell asleep).

I sometimes have to have the TV on to get to sleep or else my mind swirls too. I'm lucky in college because I have a roomate who stays up really late because she has class later in the afternoon so she will turn the tv off when she goes to sleep.

I definitely wouldn't call this a strange behavior. Like Rhapsody said, pretty normal in the mental health field and with people overly worked or stressed.

well its interesting to know im not the only one out there who needs something that makes noise to help me fall asleep, my sleep button is broken on my tv ( i need a new one for my room lol) but i once used to do that also (have it turn off on its own) sometimes my boyfriend will shut it off if it wakes him up after ive fallen asleep, i dunno i guess i just thought i was strange but i guess its much more common then i even guessed Strange behaviour?? well, night tv/radio-land sleepers, have agood one Strange behaviour??

ps- i wish i could write down my thoughts and empty my brain but i fear i'd be up all night writing! and by the time i was 'empty' it'd be morning! Strange behaviour??
