My sister was just given a prescription of this for anxiety. She doesn't want to take it because apparently she knows people who take it recreationally and it messes you up. I told her to look up info on it and that she should try it.
Looking for experiences, is it a good med?

I take it as prescribed for anxiety and it works well. It made me a little drowsy at first but it went away after a little while.

That's the first med I was given for anxiety, and it helped. It is taken by people recreationally, but in larger doses than are prescribed for anxiety, from what I understand. I was given .5 mg to start, and really only experienced the relief from anxiety. I got rebound anxiety from it, but I've heard that's not a very typical response.

Just because something can be used to get high, doesn't mean it is a bad med. I do not take benzos to get high, I take them to feel better. Doctors usually don't start people on a large dosage anyway. Addiction/physical dependence is only possible if someone takes the med regularly.

I have tried many, many meds in different groups, and nothing worked for anxiety the way benzos did for me. If there was a stigma free med that could not create dependence, I would switch in a heartbeat! But still found nothing...
Thanks for this!

Thanks for the responses. Hopefully she at least tries it. She went in to the appt hoping to get the same meds her fiancée is on, apparently it's working well for him, but he wouldn't give it to her, and prescribed Clonazepam instead.

I've tried 5 meds for anxiety. Valium: not much help there. Ativan: Worked pretty well but too strong and too short acting. Buspar and Xanax: no effect whatsoever... might as well have taken an M&M. Clonazepam is by far the best for me.
Thanks for this!

Klonopin is very effective for anxiety. Just use with caution because even when you take the prescribed dosage, if you are on this medication for more than a month or so, you will go through withdrawal if you decide to quit. You have to ween yourself off.

It's harder to stop taking it once you start taking it daily. Wise bet is to only use it occasionally for emergencies.

As long as it's taken on a as needed basis and not regularly then you can't develop a physical dependence. I've taken it in the past and it is a good med. I've been on benzos on and off for years and never had a problem with dependancy or abuse myself. I've also been on buspar with no luck. Benzos are really the only meds that helped with my anxiety issues.

Very good advice. I sometimes wish I had kept my benzo like this. I took it like that at first.

Mine were meant for real emergencies and they were not meant to improve quality of life. But when I realized they did, over time I started taking them more and also got a new doctor that allowed that.

I suddenly could live a kind of normal life instead of just cling onto life. I did it even with the emergency med because I only treated the very, very worst episodes prior. Its VERY seducing to be offered some kind of normalcy and I fell for it, and I'm physically hooked now even if it is "just" a low dosage. In a way it is worth it in a way it terrifies me because something can stop you from getting your meds.
Thanks for this!

It is a good medication as long as you use it properly.

I usually take xanax and this has always worked perfectly for me and all my issues. I have never abused it, i still dont have to take more than a .25 - .5 and im perfect. I dont take them everyday only when i need them.

My friend just gave me some of her kolonpins to see how it would work. I took some yesterday (half of a .5) and today the other half and it has been wonderful. But i have no clue about long term use.
