Hi guys, I guess I am just looking for some positive words and a little reassurance if possible. I have dealt with very bad anxiety since age 8 (triggered by many personal things). At that time I was placed on anxiety medication and as a child that did not go well. My anxiety seems to be triggered by any changes, going into anything (for example I have turned down several jobs because my anxiety starts going horribly the minute I am offered anything), and also men (due to many tramatic events). My anxiety became that third unwanted person in my current relationship. I am constantly overthinking and pushing away all the people I love. My only two emotions seem to be anxiety or feeling sad and empty. I went to the doctor ready to give anti depressants another try ( I am 24). It has been almost two weeks on zoloft 25 mg and I am feeling worse than I ever have. I feel more anxious, thinking of ending my life, non stop shaking, and the worst i feel so hopeless. Is it possible for me to ever get better? Will I ever be able to live a happy and healthy life? Will I ever be able to have a healthy relationship without depending on medication? I am currently not seeing any light at the end of the tunnel. Sorry for the book but I feel like discussing it is the only way I feel any relief (I also started therapy but have only had one session so far).Any ideas on how to cope with zoloft or anxiety in general? Thanks guys

Hi Allie, welcome to the forums ... there is a lot of support here.
The forums here are great. I've been a member for a long time. Being active by posting threads for yourself and replying to other's threads are encouraged- jump right in! Have you been screened for depression? Anxiety and hopelessness are symptoms of depression. There is hope, you can get better. I think it would be wise to make an appointment to see your doctor soon and tell him/her you're not feeling well. I had a good experience with Zoloft. It takes time to start working. Therapy helps, too. I hope you feel better soon. Contact a Community Liaison if you have any questions or concerns. |

Hello allie_rose: Welcome to PsychCentral… from the Skeezyks!
![]() ![]() I'm sorry you are having such a difficult time. I'm glad you've begun seeing a therapist. I hope you will feel able to share, with this person, all that is going on with you including those thoughts of ending your life. It is important to reach out for help in real life. It can take time for antidepressants to take effect. So, since you've only been on Zoloft for a couple of weeks, it may be it simply hasn't yet had time to take hold. However, regardless, it will be important to share what you are experiencing with your prescribing physician. Not all AD's work for everyone. Sometimes it can take a few tries before you find one that will work for you. Yes, you can get better. You can have a happy & healthy life (with or without medication). You just have to keep fighting. ![]() PsychCentral is a great place to get information as well as support for mental health issues. There are many knowledgeable & caring members here. The more you post, & reply to other members’ posts, the more a part of the community you will become. Plus there are social groups you can join & chat rooms where you’ll be able to connect with other PC members in real time (once your first 5 posts have been reviewed & approved.) Lots of great stuff! So please keep posting! ![]() |

hi allie, i understand what youre going through, we all do. Believe me, youre not alone. We all have these days. Just always remember one thing that, just coz you cant see or feel hope, doesn't mean its not there. Its out there, it just gets inaccessible sometimes.
Visualise hope, use your imagination, conjure up pictures that represent hope to you. Feel gratitude for today, everything you have today and hope for tomorrow. Dont give up. Pain is temporary. good things will happen. hold on to these words with everything youve got. ![]() |

Hi Allie, 25mgs of Zoloft is not much at all. Is there a plan to increase the dosage?

It's a low dose but most anti depressants can take a month to start working and my doctor described it as having a hill to climb, in that it's hard work and takes time but you do feel better. He was right. I'm on Prozac now and wouldn't be here without it. Hope you feel better soon. One weird thing that helped me was going swimming, it was so soothing and repetitive.
