I am new to this forum. I joined in the hopes of writing to people who have some insights into a problem I have had for years, namely fitting into the social work environment. I am a shy person, but usually have no problem talking to people one on one. In an office situtation, however, I tend to stay to myself. As a result, it seems, there is always someone who doesn't like me. I feel very anxious when these people are around and it further inhibits my interactions with others. Eventually I get written off a strange and am marginalized. I have found this to be very painful and have tried various ways to deal with my insecurities, but have not been sucessful. Any advice?

I totally understand! My possibilities for promotion have been doubted many times because I don't smooze and go to parties and assert myself enough. Being "shy" is very difficult. Have you found any resources to help you? I'm currently working on finding the root of my issue so that I can get better. Best of Luck and Welcome.
