One of the things that really IRKS me is fairness, or should I say lack there of, in the workplace.

Two months ago I applied for leave for later in the year, which I am still waiting to have approved, anyway today another person on my team asks for two weeks leave for next month and it's approved straight away.

When I asked my boss wether my leave was approved or not she said she needed to check with head office.

PLUS one member of our team (I recently found out) is getting extra money for starting early when myself and another person start at exactly the same time and get no extra whatsoever.

Seeing as I work for the government I would expect them to be fair in how they treat members of staff. WRONG.

We got a new boss 12 months ago and throughout last year I made the mistake of saying what I thought, needless to say we don't get on. This year I've been making more of an effort but it's hard, really REALLY hard. Fortunatly it isn't just me - no one in the office likes her - it's a long, long story.

One good thing today - I avoided making a comment to someone who had a go at me last week. I was late for a meeting and this person made a point of saying something in front of everyone - today, when THEY were late (for the same reason I was late last week) I could have done the same thing but I thought to myself 'Self' I thought 'you do not need to sink to their level' - so I didn't - but by god it was tempting.

Holy hell in a hand basket girl, I'd of ripped their faces off for all the crap their pulling. I have no advice about it, I know nothing about it, but it sounds like it might be something you can do something about? Someone else with more knowledge will have to comment.

I just wanted to comment on how mature you were, G-d knows it's hard to be when in the company of idiots, and you handled that situation wonderfully. Good job! *hug* ^_____^

Is their someone you can complain to about this? I know that some type of grievance can be filed, right? I am so sorry your dealing with this. Sometimes, I think this goes on in all work places. When you speak your mind and it's not the "popular" opinion it seems to make it worse. I'm sorry your having to deal with it. I would take it to upper management. Good luck and keep us posted.

GOOD FOR YOU! I know you will feel like a decent person for NOT saying anything! I sure like you for it.

No, LIFE is not fair. All we can do is the best we can do... and try to not take other ppl's incompetence personally.

Double check that your paperwork is not sitting on someone's desk waiting for some detail you might not have filled in... try to ask politely or in a way to establish that your leave is approved... yep try to make your words sweet, as we all end up eating them sometimes...

I have had to work diligently on "fairness" and otherwise... I don't have it learned fully yet... and some days not at all!

Keep trying,.

Thanks for that.

I just spoke to my union rep actually and sure enough nothing can be done - but I got it off my chest.

I will give it till Fridee then ask again and mention I need to know in order to pay for tickets.

Fairness is a REALLY big thing for me - I've established that it's my major problem at work in that it isn't the team players that get on, it's the people who back stab and lie and use others.

I guess part of my issue is that I'm not prepared to compromise who I am and what I believe in. This may make me unpopular with the boss but I'd rather be true to myself.

Yes stay true to yourself. You may not have the bosses love for doing this but by gosh you should at least have the bosses respect. Besides it is your integrity that counts.

Congrates on keeping your cool...I am not sure I could have done the same.

Take care.

Good for you for holding your tongue! I am in the same situation. Sometimes I blurt out things that wind up making me look bad. Also glad you've taken what actions are available to get your due. It rankles though when we aren't treated fairly at work or anywhere for that matter.
