I've been in a constant state of anxiety for about to weeks now and I have to wait a week and a half to see a psychiatrist to get prescribed and I am frustrated.

Has anyone else had to wait a long time like this? How did you cope in the meantime? I appreciate any support. Thank you

The clinic I tried, initially said that it'd be a couple of months before I'd be able to get an appointment, but fortunately a slot opened up after a few weeks. In the meantime I used OTC diphenhydramine to take the edge off the anxiety & for sleep.

I hope your appointment rolls along soon.

Yes, that's the generic name. I was already using it for sleep & remembered that it can have a mild anxiolytic effect. It didn't make a huge difference & it might make you drowsy depending on how the antihistamine effects you, but was better than nothing.

Yes I have had that problem in the past. I know how hard this must be for you. If you need us, we are here for moral support. If things get too bad, you can always go to a ER, and they can give you something to help calm you down. Also you can consentrate on your breathing. Breath slowly, and think about slowly breathing in, then slowly breathing out. (((((((HUGS)))))))

Katydid you touched on something regarding breathing I have tried that approach and it has helped to at least take the edge off when I started to feel my anxiety kicking in

I have that problem now. I need a med adjustment and don't have a Dr. I'm going to go to the ER if it gets worse.

The good thing is that although it might feel it in extreme anxiety, anxiety will not cause you significant harm. Use some skills. They work faster than a pill, especially one that you will have to wait hours and hours for. If you are of age have a small glass of wine. Way cheaper than a trip to the er with quicker results. If you can try to get into a dbt class. The module on distress tolerance will be very useful for a whole bunch of things.

Best of luck for you!

You can buy a dbt workbook. I am sure they have them on Amazon.com. Are you in therapy. If so I would hope that your therapist could help you with this.

There is also another good, classic book called 'the feeling good hand book'. Lots of good useful stuff in that one. I think its by David Burns

There is also a DBT site if you're interested: DBT Self Help

Call your pdoc's office and see if there is a cancellation list.

There's been some good help here so I hope your anxiety will ease soon.

Benadryl actually does help me calm down when I’m having a panic attack. I use it when I’ve spaced and forgot to refill my Xanax. My doc told me I could take a couple at a time if I need to. It tends to make me a bit goofy so I don’t do that if I need to drive or cook don’t wanna burn my house down.

I went through something like this before. Back in late 2016, I wanted to see a counselor about my anxiety problem. But I had to wait about 3 days before an appointment. I was very irritated about that. Then when the appointment finally happened, I was very disappointed with how it went. I only went to 2 sessions.

Then in late 2017, I scheduled an appointment with a counselor at my community college and I had to wait about 1-2 weeks before the appointment started. The first session was alright. But the second session felt like an interrogation and I felt pissed off after that.
