I'm flying to New York next week. Never flown before, and the last holiday I had, I had to come home early because, well because basically I get anxious when away from home.
So I just visited my doctor and asked him if he can give me something just to get me through the flight? He replied "you just need to relax, and besides your taking Mirtazpine (Remeron) and they are for panic attacks, phobias, and anxiety. I just stared at him blankly, and wanted to slap him. How dare he say just relax. But now I am worried that his going to take my anti-dep meds away for even asking him for something else. Ok I know this is mad thinking, but can doctors just stop your anti-deps? can they just do that? I know there is no evidence in "reality" to even support this thinking, its just how my head is right now. I mean what if he takes them away? I'll be left alone with my panic and anxiety!! SCREEEEEEEEEEAM

I don't know your specific meds but in most cases they don't just have you stop taking them even if they want to transition you to something else. In many cases it's extremely damaging to just stop taking these drugs.
Well, except for the panic attack meds. Those I think you can just stop taking. I think you're safe. And "just relax" is no answer, you're right. Cyran0

You're right, it is "mad thinking". What would your anti-depression meds have to do with your asking for anxiety meds? How does that punishment work? We're going to make sure that you are not only anxious but that your depression suddenly gets worse! Mooohahahaha.
I think, since you were probably angry at him for making such an obviously stupid (and that's being kind to him since he is your doctor and I like you :-) statement "just relax" that your anger would show and that would be bad since he has med "control" over you. But he doesn't know how much you love :-) your anti-D's and it doesn't sound like you let him know how angry his wholly inappropriate, idiotic, lame-brained, unprofessional response made you and I know for a fact he can't read minds if he made that statement in the first place, so I think you're safe.

Something that I do whenever I'm anxious at airports, is i like to just observe the people around me. I don't really pay attention to what they're doing so much, but i think about why they're here. I make up stories to where they are going, where they're coming from etc. It passes the time, but is most importantly gets my mind away from being anxious. Also, there's pretty much always things going on at the airport - with so many people walking around etc, its pretty easy to distract myself.
Hope this helps a little to calm those flying nerves. And when in doubt ... listen to music! ![]()
