I feel like I'm posting all the time. I just have a question to see if anyone has experienced this. I have panic disorder and I find that at night when I lay down to go to sleep that my mind is racing. I actually hear conversations in my head like I am in a busy subway station. These voices do not talk to me. It's like I said, I'm in a subway station and I can here everyone talking. Is this normal? My dad was also diagnosed with panic disorder and he told me that he had this as well but I'm afraid he is just saying that to make me feel better. Can anyone tell me if they have experienced this. Thanks again for listening or reading.

Conversations... like memories? A lot of times at night, particularly if I have triggered that day, I will experience really rapidfire flashbacks, as if I were in a room filled with hundreds of tv screens and each replaying moments of my life... not necessarily good or bad... just moments. It is disturbing... makes me feel claustrophobic or perhaps agoraphobic... yeah.. I guess it is kind of like being in a really crowded room with way too many things going on all at once.
My official diagnosis is ptsd, but I do have a lot of depression and anxiety with that. Obsidian

If you are stressed out and anxious when you go to bed when your mind is racing then yes it likely is just anxiety. Have you brought this up to your T at all?

I think this is normal for anxiety. Sometimes it takes a bit for our minds to slow down which is hard for those of us whose minds speed up when we try to sleep. Also, sometimes we hear voices when it's really just white sounds we turn into something more.
Let me make a suggestion (which I a sure you have heard before). Take time during the day to concentrate on your problems. Write them in a journal. Do what you need to do to find a way to relax your mind to prep you for a good nights rest. I have found that listening to music on my headphones helps me escape. I allow myself to get really lost in the relaxing music until I eventually start drifting off to sleep. By that time I am so tired that when I turn the music off I can go right to sleep without a huge thoughtfest first. Hope this helps some and sweet dreams. |

I, too, hear things when I first lie down to try to sleep. Sometimes I hear what sounds like old radio broadcasts of baseball games - weird. sometimes music, sometimes people talking, but not to me. My meds have pretty much stopped all that chatter, however, and for that I am grateful. I also find that when I first lie down I get a panic attack - my heart races and I get really frightened for only a few minutes then I am OK - even with the meds this happens.
