I'm failing in school again. I can't get any meds till July because my doctor is full till then. It's driving me crazy. I'm so afraid to tell my parents because I don't think they'll understand.

I failed English from 9 points from a passing grade. In class we have to read stories and answer questions, but I can't concentrate on reading so I never answer the questions.

Ugh!

Hon, talk to your teacher. If you must, tell him/her about what you're going through, and see if you can't work something out. I know that not all teachers are this understanding, but I once got out of an entire essay by giving my history teach. a vague description of the troubles I was having with my meds!

I know how horrible it is to be doing poorly in school. FAILING again! I hate it! And it's even harder to tell your parents, but they need to be there for you right now.

((((((((((((((((((((((Jess)))))))))))))))))))) I know you're going through some incredibly stressful stuff right now, but we're all here for ya. FAILING again! Keep your head up, and don't be too down on yourself--this is not your fault, and you're doing all you can to help yourself.

always,
~muse

First it was big for me because I never did good in school so I thought I was stupid and everything so I thought I only had depression. I started going to counselling then, and after my first session with my T they said I have ADD. Then they referred me to another office where I can get meds, but that office is booked until July! So I'm afraid I'll fail another class and have to repeat 10th grade again. That would not be good for my future because I want to do alot of things but I don't want just this little issue to effect the rest of my life.

As much as talking with your teachers would help, to be honest theres not much they can do. Maybe some extra study time, but if you really want to help, go to a consular in your school. They can talk to your parents and help your school. Tell them of what you have and what not. And if your parents are like mine, they will belive the consular and trust them more. Im failing also =\ So i see where your coming from. I think im going to go to mine for help so i can find out what i can do. Ive really messed up my Highschool career and i see that, but theres nothing i could really do about it. And summer school isnt the funnest thing also. Ive been there twice and yea... So best chance is talk to your consular and teachers to work something out =)

Jess, if you have a written diagnosis for ADD please talk with your parents and/or a counselor about the 504 Plan. It's a federal plan that helps people with learning/physical diabilities get the assistance they need to do well in school. If a child has hearing or vision problems, the school must get the equipment to help them hear or see better. If a child has an LD then they can get extra time to do the work.

I'm lucky. Our son's teacher first mentioned the 504. Our therapist is sending a written dx and we have a Child Study Meeting on April 19 for Mac. The vice principal, the school psychologist, his teacher, and I will be there. If it's determined he qualifies then Mac will get extra time to finish assignments.

I believe the 504 even protects adults in the workplace. I haven't had as much success finding info for myself. I just know I need to pad my time to finish my projects.

Yeah I went to my T yesterday and told her the situation and how I cant see my psychiatrist for meds till July and I might fail my grade, so I'm getting to see a doctor on Thurs. so I'm happy. And my mom also emailed the Teacher whos class I'm failing, and also my counsellor so they know the situation and if there's anything they can do. My T said teachers/counsellors are more likely to respond to parents when they have problems with child's schooling.
