I'm only on Lamotrigine at the moment, with the odd Klonopin.
Recently my short-term memory has been terrible!! My boyfriend is being driven up the wall and it's stressing me out to. I either have total blanks, or occasionally can remember once the story is told back to me...

Anyone else with this issue???!

I had short-term memory loss on each of those meds independently at different times. I was never on them at the same time so I don't know that effect. Both times I started using a note system in an organizer to keep track of things and a diary that carried with me everywhere to help combat it to refer to. It was miserable but helpful and it was the only reference I had to replace my memory and asked for patience from friends and family during that time. Once explained, they began to understand and appreciated the steps I took once I started the system to help myself; but it took a long time and much frustration on everyone's part b/c I really felt as though I was losing my mind and they thought so too! So aggrevating. I traded getting rid of BP symptoms for this. The system helped but in the end the meds stopped working over time with the BP symptoms and had to change. Ironically I still use the organizer all these years later, just in case, and the diary occassionally now. Perhaps it might help.

I hear your frustration and know it too well. I so wish I had more for you. Just be sure not to beat yourself up or take anyone else's crap for it either, you can't help it. Sometimes I hear it passes; mine did not. Find what tools you can to help you work with it if the meds are helping. Hang in there.

Well, right now I don't feel the meds are helping, so it's kind of a waste of a side-effect to go through.
I am making more notes at work, and have made my boyfriend more aware. I understand he'll first be frustrated, but eventually will change to assist me.
E.g. on Friday he asked me to put a memory stick in my handbag and asked me for it on Monday. I could not remember him asking me to pack it. I searched my one handbag top to bottom, only for him to say - no; it was not that handbag. So I went to the next one, and found it. If he hadn't retold me the story, I would not have remembered.
He also asked me to pack some stomach meds on Friday, and when I couldn't find them on Sunday night, I went crazy. And he kept telling me I'd put them in my hand bag - I don't remember.
I cannot recall any other examples, but these are all recent.

I stopped Epilim in June or so...? Maybe it's the depression and anxiety; guess we'll never know

Do what you can, ask for help when you need it, try to laugh it off....as 'there I go again' and 'how can I surprise myself next?' , and go on to the next thing. It will help take the pressure off. It happens and we can only do so much. Sometimes it happens even when there are no meds involved. Be really kind to yourself right now.

Ps. In addition to him telling you, have him write you a note too, see if that helps to remember for some things. Sometimes we just get distracted and we don't hear what someone has said or are not present when we are doing things, that we don't remember what we heard or did. This can happen when multi-tasking too. Slow down, one thing at a time can help as well; getting it the first time, saves panic later.

Thanks Fresia,
I'm going to bring it up with my pdoc too, as I just want to ensure my meds aren't jeapordising my performance at work. Else I need to be made aware of it, and take steps to ensure I don't drop the ball

Yes I have this issue but I had it due to my ADHD. I also take Lamictal so I am not sure if maybe that is making it worse. Worth looking maybe?

The first time I saw my pdoc she wanted to know if anyone had dx'd me with ADHD. So, maybe this is also partially to blame?! Thanks for the valuable input and personal experiences

I too am on lamictal generic and have a horrible problem with short-term memory loss. However, I am also on cymbalta although it's not usually recommended to be on an anti-depressant I guess. I continue the cymbalta b/c it keeps my fibromyalgia pain away.

I had that problem with Symbyax .... it got pretty bad. I feel for you. BUT I've been on some other meds and sadly Symbyax worked the best for me and (after I find a new doctor) I'm considering it again. It was a terrible side effect, but it really worked for me. Hope you find the right medicine or combination that works for you. It's tough.

Yesterday my pdoc's answer was - short-term memory loss is a common occurance with depression. So she was not prepared to give the meds any blame...
