Obviously Im not a dr, but due to the stress of coming of a med once, I experienced intense sharp chest pain, I smoked cigs at the time and thought well this is it my time has come, got an xray and it was clear. It some 4 years later now and Ive been of cigs best part of 2 years. and still get the chest collapse type pain, Obviously I can see the pattern the more stressfull the more likeliness of chest pains.
My current gp is that confident its a muscular issue, he doesnt want to pursue it (he has seen my ecg results)
So in a nutshell , I avoid triggers when im in susceptible to stress, exercise and stretch.
thats works for me..

Should I do anything about it? This has been happening for days, and nothing seems to help. I am afraid to go to the hospital because there is probably nothing wrong, but I am afraid not to go in case there is something wrong. Also, if I go and there is something worng I would be ruining my family's trip to Florida. We leave Sunday.

I'd nearly bet upon it that it's a low-level panic attack. I used to get those all the time; especially when I was in what I thought were "threatening" situations. Going on the subway or bus, crowds at Times Square or even a packed Church; awful, creepy sensation. And then of course part of it is that you get it into your head that your'e dying! I used to get shortness of breath too, break out in sweats, and the chest pains. Can you go to the Dr. and get a sedative? I keep some on hand for this. And you should go to the Dr. anyway if you're nervous about it (and you are). Good luck, and try to have a great vacation without stress and worry!

One thing you can do is push on the area on or around your heart and see if it hurts. If their is pain then 10 to 1 it is a muscle. When you have a heart attach most people will get a pain in their neck along with one in the shoulder and it my run down the arm. It also feels like a elephant is sitting on your chest so that you can't breathe. If you go to hospital their is a simple blood test that will tell them if you have had an attach. It checks to see if 3 different enzyme have been released, if not you are fine. Number 1 don't mess around with your health. Take Care, Sunviper

Just a "Food" for thought - Its possible you have developed a minor ulcer in your stomach related to all the stress your under. It can cause the same sharp pain that radiates up into your shoulders, neck, back...etc. Try to avoid acid foods (tomatos, spice, orange). Have some tums on hand or even pepcid and try those for a few days and see if it doesnt help.

Healthy energies your way....Kymaro
