Just saying Hello as I am a new member. I has had this dreaded disease for 30 years. Would like to talk with people who also suffer. Maybe I can even help some! Also would like to enter the chat rooms...I guess I have to earn that right with some posts first...

Thanks Mike

Hi Mike - welcome to the bipolar forum.

We're a friendly bunch here who know all too well how it feels to walk the road of bipolar disorder. Looking forward to getting to know you.

Peace ~ Dragonfly

Hi Mike,

I am new to PsychCentral too. I am 40 and I've had Bipolar 1 my whole life but wasn't diagnosed until age 36. I have learned a lot through therapy and reading about this disease which has helped me to use skills to keep me better balanced. Also the right cocktail of medication has made all the difference. Any way welcome and hopefully we can be of some support to one another. I hope you are well and I wish you all the best.

I've had bipolar I all my life i was misdiagnosed many times before getting diagnosed correctly. When i was a teen i had to spend time in a mental institution which nothing useful really came out of that other than i never want to go back and feel like i'm being jail for having a disorder that i don't have control over. The past few weeks have been really hard for me to just deal with my day. Today i had to leave work early because i just couldn't handle everything i was going through plus work. i feel better right now but i feel numb. I can't afford medication so i'm trying to work full time and go to school full time taking my bipolar with me every where i go without medication. I came here looking to see if anyone had any tips for managing bipolar disorder without medication. I also has PSTD which gives me paranoia every night most nights i'm scared to go to sleep so i don't have a regular sleep schedule but i've been trying to get on one that will work with my schedule. I just feel lost in the world right now

Definately sound like your going through a rough time. I know how stressful work can be. I worked in a factory for 22 years. My last episode though put a end to my career. I am now on disability. I strongly urge you to try and find a way to get meds. You can't do it on willpower or anything else. Religion, nutrition, exercise. These can all be helpful but you have to have medication.

I also know about sleep problems. I went off a drug called klonopin. I have had the worst insomnia you can imagine. So your not alone here. I wish you the best of luck and hope to hear from you again.

Mike

Yeah i know i really need to be on meds especially in the winter over the years it seems to be getting worse and my PTSD seems to be getting worse as well so i have a lot on my plate right now i'm just trying to bury myself with work so i always have something to do i think that it won't affect me as much even though i know deep down that it really doesn't and lately it has really been showing through i've been having a really hard time keeping up with my homework cause my attention span isn't long enough for me to actually get it done even working in small amounts of time i still don't manage to get it done when it is actually due and today i'm very manic so i'm hoping that i can get caught up and work on a project for myself rather than doing all of this stuff for school

Well I can appreciate your stamina to push forward through everything. You seem pretty strong to me. With work and school that's a lot of stress for a person without Bipolar. I know in my case if I get overstressed it usually makes things worse. I have anxiety issues also. So be careful and keep in check with yourself. Try and get some help though. Community mental Health maybe? I live in MI to and I go through them. I have gotten pretty good help there.

best Of Luck...Mike

i will have to look into that and see if it is something that i can get to help me out this is the first time that i have actually reached out and seeked out help other than going through doctor after doctor and end up paying bill after bill that i can't afford and really i have major trust issues even more so when it comes to doctors most of the ones i have seen call me a liar and say that i'm just looking for attention i personally think that i need a full psych eval cause i have had doctors suspect that i have another mental illness but that is as far as it goes and if i take assessments online i usually end up getting depressed or have worse anxiety from the outcome I have had to be strong my entire life so it is all i know i have a really hard time excepting help from anyone so i'm hoping that i can be more willing to accept help from here than i am other places

Skeeter89, I have tried the no medication way cause my family were not ok with me doing that and that God would heal me. I now know that God would want me to do what is best for me to be in a better place. I am no committed to making sure I will get the right meds and stay strong to stay on them. I also went through a Community Health program, here they have an intake location then they send you to one that is close to you. They also help with seeing what programs you can get help from. It is hard if you are the type of person to be independent, take charge of yourself. But you can use that strength to learn all you can on here and other resources to find the right steps to getting the help you need. It's a journey we all have to go through but you can do it.

Hi Mike, welcome to the group. I'm pretty new, too, but I'm finding it to be a great, safe place to find answers and get support. The people on here have been wonderful.
