Hi all hope your all doing well today, for those who have read any of my posts you will know that I have previous diagnosis of clinical and more recently the possibilty of bipolar.
I've been to see the PDoc today withe the mood diary showing my mood changes, irritability, anxiousness and hallucinations, and each day I wrote a comment such as I'm really anxious today or I'm suicidal.
So he was writing stuff down and asked about my hallucinations and asked me if they were in my head or if they were coming through my ears,I said in my head, so does that mean they are not auditory hallucinations?
So now my preliminary diagnosis is generalized anxiety disorder, which to me sounds less severe than the way I feel,if that makes sense?
I have all the symptoms of bipolar but due to the anxiety being prominent this is me for now,I've been perscribed quetiapine, starting at 25mg going up to 150mg.
I know for a fact that this medication is used for schizophrenia and bipolar so now I'm relly confused, any advice for me anybody please?
Thanks
JK

No, they are auditory hallucinations...

As for the use of Quetiapine (Seroquel) docs can use them also for sleep and severe anxiety disorders.
People can have hallucinations with Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective disorder, Bipolar, severe anxiety with psychotic features and such.
Perhaps your pdoc is not sure of your true dx yet and is staying with anxiety disorder for now, so as to not misdiagnose you? .... I'd ask at your next appt.

Hi thank you for clarifying that for me about the hallucinations and I also think your right about dx as when he was asking questions about symptoms and when I replied no he looked a bit puzzled, therefore maybe he is playing it safe for now.
I had my first seroquel last night and I don't feel too bad, just a little tired.
Thank you your advice has been very helpful
Take care

No problem! I try to help if I can. Just curious but what symptoms did you answer "no" to?

It is possible to have both BP and GAD. Not saying that's what going on in your case by any means, but I am dx with both so it is possible.

I would say your pdoc is probably doing the safe thing and treating the symptoms while working towards a correct dx. It may take a little time if you have a lot going on but try to be patient (trust me I know that's easier said than done). It's much more important to get the right dx than a fast one.

Good luck, let us know how it goes.

Thank you for your reply I did not know you can have both,he did say he was quite confident that I didn't have bipolar.
Your totally right about taking the time to get the correct dx, for over 20 years I've just been given ssri meds for depression and sleeping pills, even though I'd tried every single pill in that family of meds and not one has helped my family doctor would not listen to me or change me to different type of medication.
So I'm now with seroquel and sertraline and so far so good.
Thank you for taking the time to respond, take care

Its very typical for people with Bipolar to have more than one diagnosis. Theres a word for it but, like you, I can't remember it. It seems like ever since the bipolar started, I can't remember anything anymore. I have BP and an Anxiety Disorder. Other people might also have a ... It just came to me!!!

COMORBIDITY!!! (I get way too excited when I remember things)

Theres quite a few other mental illnesses that can go along with bipolar and actually often do. He may be using Seroquel to treat bipolar and see if it helps your moods without telling you. (that may just be the paranoid side of me speaking... I can never tell if its logical or not)
]
Goodluck. And look up comorbidity.
