My eyes are dry because I keep forgetting to blink because I'm so wired. My chest feels funny because I keep forgetting to breathe because I'm so wired. I'm getting all giddy & shaky. I think my blood pressure is going up too, because it's almost like the veins in my hands are sore.

****... It's been so long since I've had legitimately severe mania. This really, really sucks. I'm not particularly euphoric or dysphoric. I just have so much pent-up energy in my reserve that I can't get out. Slowly becoming overwhelmed, but there's no emotional tint to it. It just is. Thankfully the hallucinations are only minor & occasional. And no delusions, which are probably the worst!

Does anyone have similar symptoms &, if so, what does it mean for you? I'm not in any sort of professional care & I don't want to start. I'm going to brew some chamomile tea & watch movies to calm myself down, but this is ****ing intense. I just needed to post.

Hmph. Bye bye, stability!!

Danke for the hugs, Trippin!! I usually fare pretty well in the interim or when it's mild/moderate, but when I'm in the midst of increasing severity, it's a whole different story. But I have a really supportive boyfriend & I think he's been able to detect my decline & fall... So I should be okay. When I get this bad, I tend to post more! Lol

I have never heard of the physical symptoms you describe as being part of mania. How about anxiety?

I'm not anxious at all... Thankfully, since I had a long bout of anxiety until two weeks ago. But perhaps since I have borderline high blood pressure & occasional arrhythmia, I might be an exception to the rule. Thanks annie. You generally post very helpful logical/medical responses. : )

Is it possible you have hyperthyroidism? Have you had your thyroid checked recently?

bipolaralarmedstudent: My thyroid is fine, as far as I know. I DID have post-partum hyperthyroidism for about a year but that's about it... Though as soon as I have insurance, I should probably check that out. If so, well then I'm very angry at my thyroid for not making my metabolism faster!! :P

moremi: Awwwwww.

It's seemed to have gone away for now, but it keeps fluttering back. I notice that it goes away when I'm frustrated or feeling dysphoric, so... Who ****ing knows! Hahaha

I have had similar symptoms from stress somatization at times of high anxiety in mixed episodes. Firstly minor physical discomfort starts like the expressions "pain in the neck", "sick to the stomach", "pain in the ***" acid reflux, nausea, digestive and bowel promblems worsen as time pass's. The body needs sleep to recover and for organs to function so after extended lack of sleep, vomitting becomes only dry retching from loss of appetite, inflamed throat and swollen neck, severe stomach pains i wont even explain what happens at the exit valve. After numerous ultra sounds ct scans 2endoscopy and 2colonoscopy dozens of blood tests not one doctor could explain what was causing it the first time it happened. I lost 28 kg in less than 3months. It was only after this that my doctor asked if i had been feeling stressed anxious or having trouble sleeping at the time and referred me to a mental health specialist and i was diagnosied with bipolar.

Geeze, that really sucks. Stress only gives me minor issues (acid reflux & muscle cramps, but those usually have to do with poor posturing when I'm stressed) or Bipolar symptom flare-ups. I have physical problems as it is... But seeing as my symptoms were triggered by no feelings of stress/anxiety, were precipitated by increasing mania, & not in conjunction with my other health problems acting up-- I figured it was worth a shot to see if anyone else has experienced anything similar.

I've had the dry eyes from my eyes being so wide open and stare-y from mania. Totally weird, but one of the can't-miss symptoms for me.

Also the feeling like my chest might explode, but I don't know if that's truly physiological.

Honestly, most people in the U.S. just don't describe mania in relation to their physiological state. If you notice, in this culture people tend to describe "feelings" and "behaviors" but they don't spend a spectacular amount of time looking at the physiological signs their bodies are exhibiting. I read you tend to get more physiological-based descriptions if you go to Asian countries though.

For instance, if you're in an asian country they might describe depression as having something heavy in their stomachs but they might not say "I feel depressed."

It's kind of interesting how this works based on the language and the semantics of it. English also has a lot more adjectives to describe feelings.

Ani: Yeeeeeeeeah, that's exactly what I mean!! Lol

Confused: It's weird... I'm not foreign to the US or anything, but I don't often get emotional symptoms. Behavioural, yes, but those weren't really concerning me at the time. I like the Eastern way of describing depression... While it tends to understate the importance of the mind, it brings a wholeness to the mind-body phenomenon. It's interesting! : )

I know the post is about mania but I think it really is interesting when these states are experienced in the body. I feel depression in my body as a massive weight (esp in my arms and legs). I got told that I mostly suffer from atypical depression (in the down swing) but I haven't investigated it myself yet.
