Are some people naturally more disciplined with themselves than others are?
Can you learn it, even in your 40's?

I want to go per diem at work, my husband thinks its a good idea too.
My goal is to focus on my health- mentally and physically and of course on my family. This being- reading, journaling, exercising, eating better, going to meetings, spending more time outdoors and maybe taking a class.

Anyone know how I could go about my day less distracted? I'm afraid I'm going to just waste away the free time I will be having (like by watching soaps and being on the computer too much).

I hope I made sense. A lot of times on here I feel like I make 0 sense.

You make sense
I am not a naturally disciplined person AT ALL. I am the ultimate procrastinator. But I needed to be on top of myself totally this year. It was a pretty huge change. I used a LOT of schedules, incentives, and incremental changes. Basically, my schedule for the first couple of days was very lax, and it got more and more complicated. Easing into it might be the best way to go if you aren't very disciplined to begin with. Also, once I got used to the scheduling, I was a lot less distracted in my life, and much more willing to do productive things.
Thanks for this!

I think discipline is something you have to decide to do in your mind before
it works practically. Decide you won't waste your time, and if you catch yourself
just lounging around get up and do something. Make a list of thinks you have to
get done and things you'd like it get done so its ready made for times of slacking.

Lordy I sure hope so Seaswept, I'm trying very hard. Don't know yet if I will be able to change my free-flowing chaos into something disciplined. I must do it, my sanity and my job are on the line. So, Yes, i try to think positive, it must be possible someone our age to change.

Lists and schedules help a ton. Otherwise I'm like dust particles floating by... Besides needing money, discipline and structure is why I NEED a job, I have to answer to somebody or I'd lounge around 90% of the time, and then go crazy coz my brain cells are dying Best of luck

Thanks guys for responding.

I'll have to make up a schedule, but start out slow like eloquent said...
and I wonder if there is a hypnosis cd or tape I could use to get this into my head?
I'm gonna look.

The thing is ,I like to do what I wanna do when I wanna do it, BUT I definitely am more productive with a schedule/routine.
The scary part is making it up myself, can I trust me?

The other reason I want to this is because my hours at work SUCK weekends and Mon 2nd shift.

Oh and by the way how do you guys get the "thanks for saying so" and the "hugs" buttons? I don't see them anywhere

I watched a doctor once, Seaswept, who was sitting just outside the nurses' desk,
and he was dressed for surgery, but before he went into the operating room for
scrubbing, he sat at the desk and just stared into space for the longest time.

I think he must have been clearing his mind of anything that could have distracted him before surgery. When he finished, he got up energetically and walked into
the operating room. I had the feeling that his whole attention then was directed to the operation ahead.

I've tried that at times, and it really helps. Clearing the mind of distractions and
then concentrating fully on what needs to be done. It does benefit me even if it took a couple of times to get it off and running.

Let us know if you find something interesting like hypnosis cd, that could probably help me too.

the thanks and Hugs buttons are on the bottom right of each post. are you using a regular computer or a phone? i think less things show up if you're using the web on your phone.
Thanks for this!

Genetic, That is so cool about the Dr. I would have loved to have seen it. You described it so well, that I actually do feel like I saw it. So yeah, and meditation clears the mind that might be a good way to start they day. Maybe some yoga too... I better not get too carried away lol.

and Blue I will definitely let you guys know when I find something.

Thanks, I see the thanks and hugs now. How did I miss them. And yeah I'm on my home computer, I'm just dumb at it. lol.
