does anyone else have this? my moods rarely last more than a few hours. ill be good, and then really good, and then uncomfortably manic, and then crash, and then start all over again. sometimes i have days at a time where i am depressed, but hypo and mania rarely last long.

That's even faster than rapid cycling, right? I can't imagine that. What kind of treatment are you getting for that?

its ultra-ultra-rapid cycling.

i take:
zoloft 100
buspar 40
clonidine .03
lithium 1200
lamictal 300
geodon 160

it helps some. my mood swings arent as severe as they used to be and im no longer dangerous to myself and others. and while severe depression is better than suicidal depression and mania is better than homicidal mania, its still no way to live.

Sometimes I cycle like that too, idk what sets it off tho, I'm bp2. Worst ultradian cycling happened when I was going thru med withdrawl. Its extremely exhausting, frustrating and REALLY confusing. No way to live at all, I feel for you

Bipolar NOS dx annoys me...I feel like it's the cop-out diagnosis: we know there's something wrong with you, but we're not quite sure what it is...it's bipolar...just not sure which one. But maybe that's just me.

Are your episodes triggered by anything specific? In addition to that long list of meds, are you doing therapy of any sort?

I have the same thing. It's horrible. I am officially diagnosed with cyclothymia. My moods can change hour to hour, or sometimes multiple times an hour. When I cycle I either have full blown mixed episodes or rapid cycling multiple times a day. It's really difficult on me. I will feel horribly depressed and suicidal, then an hour later perfectly fine, then an hour later back down in the pits again. The mixed episodes are the really scary ones for me though.

I'd get another therapist, Darkandempty. Your therapy should be a valuable help in stabilizing things for you. Sometimes personalities just don't work together well. Another one might be wonderful for you.

Hi there. I have the same exact cycling. I wake up normal, become hypomanic, manic then crash into depression within the course of a day.

The hypomania to mania switch lasts hours. The mania to depression switch takes five minutes. It can be very confusing.

The doctor said that this kind of cycling is most commonly caused by going unmedicated for too long. He also said that in some people the cycles shorten in duration and intensity as you age. I am 50 and haven't noticed any changes yet.

Hope this helps.

Funny your Dr should say that, my ultradian cycling started as soon as my meds kicked in, before that I had 4 - 7 day cycles... Buuut, I'm 1 of the weirdos, caffeine makes me sleepy, food makes me skinny so don't take too much notice of my opposite effects
