Yeah some things like that trigger me too. It's not a waste of a thread. It's good to know what triggers you and to talk about it.

I can't watch any movies about cancer or people dying of cancer or kids with cancer... no cancer! Like I love that show The Parenthood. It's one of my favorite shows. But this year I can't watch it. I can't. I can't even watch the commercials for it, because not only does that lady in it, her character is named Christina, get cancer. But she has 3 kids and I identify with her more than the other characters to begin with... So, I don't dare even turn it on.

i've not seen that show before and by the sounds of it not sure i want to... if it triggers you, it's bound to have the same affect.

Hi,
I've found that a lot of shows I use to be able to watch, I'm not able to anymore. In fact I don't watch much tv b/c I get easily overstimulated. I'm trying to really learn abt overstimulation and my triggers. I'm glad u posted this thread and I understand why the movie caused discomfort.

Not a waste of a thread at all.

I hear you, there are a lot of shows and movies I won't watch. I have a hard time watching the comedies, where every second joke is objectifying, degrading, or putting down women. There really is enough of that in real life, I don't think it is funny at all. I have a history of SA and other things that tie into this, so no doubt that attitude I see contributes to this part of society. I know people watch it and don't think twice, I can't help it though.

Violence, ya not really entertaining, It really bothers me, and bothers me that somehow I should find it entertaining and enjoy it, I don't get it. Violence irl... never good.

There is a lot of other stuff. And ya if you have been through a lot of it in real life, why would it not be triggering, or uncomfortable to watch, or see others enjoying watching it.

I don't think there really is anything wrong with people not wanting to have to re-watch traumatic events, I do wonder about a society the finds joy in it. I think it's pretty human to be able to empathize with a character, and be bothered or uneasy with their pain.

I mostly stick to comedy shows. I love comedy. I watch the Office, Parks and Recreation, The Big Bang Theory, America's Funniest Videos, The World's Dumbest (fill in the blank,) Raising Hope... all shows that are not very serious. I also like Once Upon a Time, which isn't a comedy but it's a fantasy and not overly dramatic.

The Parenthood is kind of a drama, I used to watch it with my husband. I don't watch it on my own.

I don't like detective drama but I like forensics shows. Like how they solved the murder in real life type shows, but I don't watch them all the time. And I like scary movies or shows. Like The Walking Dead.

But, mostly comedy shows. Because they are not very serious.

big bang theory is cool

do you like southpark or family guy- or american dad... any of those animated shows

i mainly stick to game shows myself accept for a few dramas (such as downton) and commedies

despite the fact that this week's episode was not really good to watch i could watch downton abby all year if they made enough episodes.

currently their are only 3 series though- kept thinking today their was only 2 but then saw my season 1 and 2 dvds so knew i must be on 3.

I watched south park when it first came out. Like the first half of season 1. South park is extremely triggering for me. Same with family guy and so I never even watched American Dad. Some types of comedy I can't deal with. Like South park is a good example of "we know more than you and we're going to make fun of you because of it." Not that they are making fun of me, but putting others down. I actaully get into arguments with the t.v....

I used to love The Simpsons. Up until around season 13 or so. I haven't watched it much for a few years, because the new writing isn't as good, it's just different. I was disappointed by the movie a great deal, too. But, from the older Simpsons I can equate all things back to the show. Haha... no one would play Simpsons trivia with me because no one could beat me. Not any more, but back in those days...

It's the "we know everything and everyone else is stupid, so lets make fun of them" type of attitude. Like I said I start arguing with the t.v. I get really mad. It's craziness... there is just something in their tone that bugs me. I also can't watch It's Always Sunny in Philedelphia for that exact reason.

I was really badly bullied as a kid, so I am really sensitive to certain things, and something about it puts me back in that place.

Also, there's that show Robot Chicken on cartoon netwark, I actually have panic attacks watching that show... and then the worst one is... Aqua Teen Hunger Force. OMG, that show scares me to death, something about it freaks me out to no end... I don't want to think about it...

I can watch horror films and blood and gore and all that but don't put that show on in my house...

No, it's okay. This is all about shows that trigger us, right.

I can't watch anything that is has to do with space or is about the paranormal. Those are triggers for me. I don't enjoy crime dramas because they all seem the same to me, just different characters investigating murders. Horror movies scare me!
I like to stick with the comedies already mentioned, or some of the dramas that don't center around investigators. And sometimes I enjoy some good, trashy reality shows-but Honey Boo Boo is too much for even me

haha, Honey Boo Boo... I didn't watch it. I refused to watch that...

Reality t.v. is okay sometimes. I like ones where you learn things more than some of the others, like Pawn Stars and Storm Chasers and Gold Rush, those types. . I don't like The Real Housewives series. It's all just drama and arguing. I don't like arguing too much, it makes me nervous. And long ago I gave up on those love shows like the Bachelor or whatever.

Absolutely not a waste of a thread!

We haven't had TV in our house for a little over a year. No cable or satellite because I owe 3 companies money for past-due bills and equipment that I never returned.

I never bought the converter box a few years ago when the government was telling us we had to get it or we would no longer get local channels.

So we don't even have local channels.

Sometimes I miss it. I used to have the TV on in the background for noise and so I would feel connected with the outside world, but the negativity on the news brought me down.

I love comedies, but sometimes they trigger me.

I think part of the reason my work history is so terrible is because I've watched so many sit-coms through the years where the characters were at work and all they did was joke around. I expect to socialize and joke around at work instead of actually working.

There are just a few shows that I watch now, and I watch them online.

"Parenthood" is good, but it's a trigger for me to see a big family, even when the family is not happy all the time. It just reminds me of how alone I am, how very small my family is, and how we barely scratch the surface with getting to know each other.

I watched the first season of "Downton Abbey" on Netflix and haven't watched more. I liked it, but not enough to give up a hour here and there.
