No matter what I do, I can't sleep at a normal time. Last night I was able to get to bed earlier than in recent time- not quite 2am. Pdoc prescribed essentially prescription benadryll and I took the highest dose he recommended and sleep? What sleep? I would fall asleep for a few minutes and then wake up... over and over and over....

Can you listen to any kind of music while you try to sleep? There's some phone apps that have very good ambient music/sounds to help with sleeping. It might help your mind slow itself down and allow you to sleep.

I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks. I can't listen to music, though. Even if it makes me tired it keeps me just awake enough..

I couldn't sleep for more than 2-3 hours a night for almost 4 months straight. My MD tried Trazadone, Ambien, no results, but at that time he thought I was depressed, and I was on an antidepressant which made me more manic. He had to change my meds & I'm finally sleeping and feeling more sane

Maybe talk to your PDoc about adjusting your meds? Maybe even temporarily? Lots of people take Melatonin (supplement).

Nessa's right - I sometimes use a white noise app on my iPhone and other nights I use earplugs. I also started wearing an eye mask at night.

Other advice - no eating or exercise an hour or two before bed. (Although exercise earlier in the day can promote sleep). Maybe read? I like to read in bed before I fall asleep.

There should be some great tips & articles on the this site about getting better sleep.

I hope you get some rest! I can really empathize.

It sounds as if your psychiatrist has given his best effort to help.

You might wish to consult with an allergy specialist. They can often be very
helpful in locating the things that are causing you to lose sleep and will be able
to prescribe an appropriate anti-histamine. (Many psychotropic meds contain a
small amount of anti-histamine.

I have suffered with Insomnia since I was 10-11 years old.

For myself all the "sleep hygiene" is of no help for me . I have tried many many Medications and finally one that works 95 % of the time.

Talk to your Pdoc and make sure they really understand. keep a log of the hours you sleep , how long it is taking you to fall asleep and how many times you wake each nite. That is the kind of information your doctor needs to treat you accordingly.

I hope you find a solution

If nothing helps, you may need to see a neurologist. Maybe you have a neurological sleep disease - they are rare.

I too have sleep issues. Mine is more of the I can't turn off my mind at any cost situations which keeps me up no matter how tired I am.

If I do get to sleep at some point I wake up every couple of hours or so and then takes me a while to get back to sleep.

I am now going to try Ambien as that is what I was given today. I will see how that goes. I have to follow up in two weeks and go from there.

otherwise I will just sleep when exhaustion hits and hope it is not at work or something like that. Good luck to you
