Anyone who's read a few o my posts in th last few weeks knows I've been switching back and forth from hyper to depressed A LOT.

Just now I realized that I've actually had cycles that fit the definition of bipolar in symptoms and length, but ever since I got put on meds, my moods have just been off the wall and entirely unpredictable.

So I made this chart and put it in my mood journal for my apt with my T tomorrow morning.

The 12th grade peak's supposed to be in the happy/hyper range, but it doesn't look like it in this picture. Oh well.

Cool! I think I have had mood swings that I didn't recognize before I was diagnosed too. And the rapid cycling started after meds. Good luck with your T!

I've had constant mood changes after meds....not rapid cycling tho. Is this the norm when taking meds?

Hmmm personally I think you should leave T with all questions answered and feeling like things are progressing.

I think the most productive thing that happened was she told me not to purge because it's bad. I'm pretty sure I already knew that. >_< She wants me to keep more of a timeline thing with my moods with the ups and downs over time.

Yeah I started out keeping one but couldn't keep the routine. I did receive some info on mood tracking apps. I may give it a shot again. Good luck with your timeline.

It's at least a few visits to get a feel for each other. Therapists watch your body language how you respond to specific questions,

Same as you are going to watch your T and see how he/she acts.

Of course she will tell you to not purge ... So far that's probably the only for certain thing shes knows.. Mood charts are so important in Bipolar.

Good luck

I've been seeing her once a week since January. How long should it take her to get a feel for me?

Have you and her set any goals? Have you learned things in Therapy that you can apply to daily life that helps?

Right now my goals that have been set are:
1. cope better with past abuse (we haven't talked about that in a long time, though...)
2. cope with mood swings so I can stay functional (we talk about this a lot, but she really only says to keep a log in my journal, call her if there's a crisis)
3. *maybe* get off meds if it's safe and reasonable before I'm of a socially acceptable childbearing age (SOOO likely at this point )

I haven't noticed anything but my dad says I'm more open.

Seems like realistic goals... especially if your dad is seeing a difference.

The only other advice is get specific "coping" skills.... As in when X happens I need to First try A then B then C etc..

Next visit ask her to read outloud the notes from your first few sessions together.
Why do that you ask????

Well .. I got in a funk about 6 months ago and felt like I was walking in a circle in therapy ... SO my T said .. Ok time to revisit the past ... He pulled up the notes from my first visit , my 4th appt and my most recent session..

It was a huge eye opener , I was able to really see how much better I am.

Oh yeah and Therapy isn't suppost to be easy .. My T always says "if it's not hard work then we are doing it wrong"

Yeah, I'm really not good at coping. I've stopped trying to kill myself when I get really depressed so I guess that's a start.

I'll ask her next week, maybe reread some of my journal entries, too.
