So, one time I have major intrusive thoughts is when people ask me for directions at work. I know I've mentioned that I get really mad about this before. But, I get some very violent, unpleasant intrusive thoughts. Because I have to give directions upwards of 10 times every day, I am having these extremely violent thoughts a lot.
And they don't go away directly after the conversation ends. Sometimes they last 10-15 minutes after. It's worst when I have multiple calls in a row, which is very common. Then I can even get angry about it hours later and have more intrusive thoughts.... I've been trying to cope. I tell myself calm down. I try to clear my head. Take deep breathes. Take a walk around away from my desk. Try to think logically. I feel it's getting harder and harder to think logically on this issue. I don't know if I have a question, I guess I just need to vent. I am scared of these stupid thoughts. I don't like having them all the time. ![]()

I don't know what kind of phone system you have at work, but if you're having to give the same information so many times, is it possible to record it? A techie could figure a way to put it on a loop I bet.
I'm sorry you're going through this. I'd find it annoying, even without any issues to deal with. Talk to any techies you know--they can do this.

(((DH))) Why do you think you get this with giving directions? Is it the confusion, the repetetiveness? Do these people have gps and can just plug the address into their car or phone? Do you guys have a website you can direct them to? Or a little map you could email them?
Or could it have to do with the location youre having to tell them to drive through - did something bad happen there? There's this one game on lumosity that I HATE ... it's made it obvious to me how I'm not so great at directions. So there's a maze and 2 penguins, you race against the other penguin to get to the food. Sounds fun enough right? Nope - cuz the maze spins and then the arrow controls don't work like they should! I get pretty anxious when that game pops up in my training. Also, once in a rental car, it had gps and you could choose to keep it always north or to move as you move. My mom was kindly laughing at me because I could not wrap my head around it, so confusing! Confusion is one the primary emotions that leads to anger - from that one type of therapy I did with my son. |

Oh, how I wish we could have it on a recording. That would be so good. But, no. Our office loses money, not make money. We don't have 'press one for directions,' blah! The other offices get it, but we don't. there's a lot we don't get, because we're a money loser. The only reason we exist is because they feel our service is important.
I do e-mail or mail our directions out. But, people still want me to give it. The thing is, people are coming from all over the city to see us. So, they have no idea where we are. We have given our maps to the doctor offices to hand out, only maybe 4-5 of the 79 providers actually pass them out. ![]() ![]() I have no idea why I hate it so much. I have a lot of repetative things to say. Like what class is about, I repeat that information the exact same amount. I know that GPS actually is wrong to our location, and so it is better to give directions. Nothing bad has happened here.... I don't know what it is. ![]()

Maybe the mundane repetitiveness, torture for a creative abstract mind.
