Alan ( the Chaplin) has no understanding of bipolar, however he did say that he has watched Homeland and that the woman on that was bipolar. Was wondering did she portray bipolar in a realistic way??? I never watched it

O.o

That's an odd thing for someone to say to you."I watch Homeland therefore I understand bipolar." That's like saying, I watch Grey's Anatomy, therefore I can diagnose you for surgery. >.>

I've never watched the show either, so I have no idea. But, it doesn't even matter because we all react to bipolar differently.

I personally haven't seen it (so I'm sure it's no help). But I did hear she does decent job at portraying it. Not great. But decent. I did hear that Bradley Cooper did a better job in Silver Linings Playbook.

However, coming from someone who has seen Silver Linings about 50 times since it was released, I do have to say that even that portrayal is a bit off... but that's just me. The female lead in the movie seems more accurate to Bipolar. The more I watch it the more I think Bradley Cooper's character is more BPD than Bipolar. Still a good movie.

Off topic. Sorry... I'll stop now.

I fully agree with your assessment of Jennifer Lawrence in that movie.. And, ironically, Jennifer Lawrence was supposed to be the one with BPD.

I think it would have been better if they had actually showed Bradley Cooper's character dealing with psychosis. He talked about it a little. It was something about his wife and her lover embezzeling money to frame him or something.

The best "bipolar" moment in that whole movie is when he wakes his parents up in the middle of the night to rant about the Hemingway book he was reading. That's totally up my alley.

I certainly would not rely on anyone's recommendations regarding bipolar diagnosis and treatment whose only knowledge of the disorder is through TV. This doesn't mean he can't help you, just that I wouldn't put much weight on his opinions on the matter, or any more than anyone else without expertise or experience on the matter.

I saw only a couple of episodes of that show and had no idea where the bipolar was coming from, but as I say I haven't seen it much, she didn't seem to be in an episode during the episodes I watched.

We decided we could go on a journey together, he shows me how to find peace with in myself while he learns about my experience with bipolar.
