I got a letter from my therapist that she " disowned" me because I haven't been there in a while. yea I know I need to go. but I'm ok with it I think. she wasn't deep enough for me. I think im too messed up.

I'm bp2. should I have a general counselor or someone more specific to my needs? for the record, I have psychiatrist for meds, but she is not the talk to type. how much of a specialist do I need?

I am bp2 and I get more out of therapy than I do out of meds, to be honest. I've gotten so much better at being able to deal with my emotions and triggers, that the meds don't touch.

IMO, a meeting with a therapist once a week is ideal. For me it's like a check in and purge. The rest of the week is much smoother after I see her.

But find one that you like - mine was very focused in mindfulness and CBT, and that is working for me. Mine is also a social worker, so think outside the box. But be picky - you're not going to get anywhere with someone you're not motivated to see.
Thanks for this!

Agree with monochomatic. CBT and mindfulness have been extremely helpful - but both of which I have done mainly on my own rather than in therapy. I did online courses and a lot of my own practice. Therapy with someone has been very helpful too, I think essential in treating a mental health condition. Meds can only do so much, the rest is up to you.
Thanks for this!

I think the most important thing about a therapist is that you can connect with them and that the type of therapy they do suits you. It is a bit hit and miss but good luck with finding one that suits you.

I found a good counsellor who had very minimal qualifications but was excellent and just got me. He helped me change the way I thought about myself so that I didn't start beating myself up at the slightest problem or mood change. I still have depressions but how I react to them is different

Are u saying that makes u a slacker? Therapy is a delicate thing & has to be a good fit. I want to get back in it badly but overwhelmed thinking about finding the right one again. If u like deep, u might like mindfulness therapy. That's prob what I'm gonna look for. I liked the last lady but that was years ago. I want someone new.
