Even my pdoc is starting to give up on me. She told me if the lamictal doesn't start helping with this depression as my dose goes up she is going to refer me to a different pdoc cause she doesn't know what else to do. She doesn't want to take me off either AP because we've gotten my psychosis under control with them. I am at a loss for what to do. On a plus side my anxiety has gone way down. Guess there is something to be said for being so depressed you don't care.

I hope the Lamictal starts helping. I hate you pdoc has these feelings. There has got to be something that will help.

I'm very sorry that happened, outlaw. But I agree with Venus - your pdoc may be at a loss but that doesn't mean another one will be too.

And ultimately it is up to you to decide if both ap's are best. You have the right to titrate off of one if you want to see how it goes.

Plus your lamictal is still low. You may indeed feel better as it increases. I wish she hadn't said that to you before you even knew if lamictal would help. That's not very professional.

I agree the lamictal dose is low still. Is there a reason you haven't tried an anti depressant? I know it's not for everyone but I am one of those that needs that too.

She's afraid to try an antidepressant for the fear of it making me manic

I think there is a fair chance that the lamictal will start to work. It doesn't usually have antidepressant effects below 100mg, I don't think, so it's normal that it hasn't started to work yet. You've just got to give it some time.

You might want to try swapping out the Geodon for an AP with antidepressant effects, like Zyprexa or Seroquel.

Wait a minute - she is afraid that an AD will flip you into mania while covered by TWO AP's??? Or did I misread?

Hamster you didn't misread. And secretum I tried seroquel but even at an extremely low dose I couldn't cope with how tired it made me.

Wellbutrin is less likely to flip a person into mania than the SSRIs or SNRIs. Maybe you could try that? But like others have said, your lamictal dose is very low, so it would probably make sense to get that to a therapeutic level before adding anything new. Also, Seroquel is more sedating at lower doses than at higher doses. I hope the next pdoc is better for you.

Wow. I can't imagine a pdoc giving up on a patient who hasn't been tried on a higher dose of Lamictal or even a tiny dose of an AD. It is DEFINITELY time to go to a different doc---there are so many more things that can be done for you!

Personally, I can't do without my Celexa. I've tried going off of it twice and promptly went into a death spiral. Anything over my current 5 mg tends to contribute to mania, so I stick with this teeny-tiny bit and do pretty well. (Wellbutrin made me full-on manic AND psychotic, so it's not necessarily the end-all and be-all of ADs for everyone, even if it does have a somewhat favorable profile in BPs.) Just don't let this pdoc discourage you from seeking proper treatment; there's bound to be something out there for you that'll make you better without flipping you into mania. Don't settle!
