Hi all. I have been on meds since the beginning of December, lithium and seroquel. I have been on a roller coaster, upping dosages, getting blood tests and regular weekly appts with pdoc and T. On Jan. 1 I had a good day, next day was good as well, only small agitations. Today my mood has escalated to the point of laughing uncontrollably at my partner and daughter. What in the hell is going on? I am scared. I have a pdoc appt Friday.

You probably need a dose adjustment. A month isn't very long to get it right!

why are you on meds/drugs? they seem worse than whatever illness you are supposed to have. I just read that seroquel can be highly addictive.http://clinpsyc.blogspot.com/2007/01...quell-man.html

Lithium is a serious drug to be taking it can damage your internal organs. Lithium is a questionable drug .---Lithium was first described as a psychiatric drug in 1949 by an Australian psychiatrist, John Cade. According to a psychiatric textbook: "While conducting animal experiments, Cade had somewhat incidentally noted that lithium made the animals lethargic, thus prompting him to administer this drug to several agitated psychiatric patients.---

I have BPII so far. I seemed to be fairly stable for a few days after taking the meds for a month. I just feel like I do not know anything right now. A stranger in a strange land, so to speak. Thanks for the links, I will check them out. Is there anything that is a "good" med for BPII?

Many medications are fine for Bipolar disorder, and work effectively.
There are some meds that may not be for some people, but the medications cannot be condemmed for the certain few.
You will find a lot of interesting true facts on several medications that are used for Bipolar as well as other disorders.
I cannot think off hand (I just woke up and need breakfast first) but there is lots of info to be found on the internet and even better, take a look at "suggested reading" at the top of this forum.
Organizations such as, NAMI and DBSA can also offer some helpful info.
Any medication, including OTC meds. can affect someone in the world in a negative way, we can also obsess with the negatives and shut ourselves off from the positives, depriving ourselves of having a better chance of stabilizing the swings, it's the individuals choice.
Lithium happens to be an excellent medication, and with the longest track record of successful use.
Again, for some people with health problems, another med may be more helpful.
I wish you luck with whatever med you choose or do not choose to take.
Please take care,
DE

Yes, Lamictal. Lamictal (Lamotrigine), many, including myself, have found to work great, especially for the depressive end of BP-II.
Compared to some other meds in it's class,it is non-sedating (for most using it) and does not cause weight gain for most people.
As usual, medications are not a "one size fits all" sort of thing, some meds agree with some while others may need a different kind(s) as well as dosages.
I wish you luck with this,it can work out, keep the faith.
Take care,
DE

Thanks, DE. I spent half the night online looking up meds. I am MORE confused than ever now! I guess I just feel like I should be farther along than I am, after all, I am a recovering addict and want it yesterday! So, I see my pdoc today at 1:15 so hopefully that will help. When I get manic like the other night, I just want something to take to fix it quickly. Like I said in another post, I feel like I do not know nothing right now and I think that feeds my anxiety, big time. I have gotten some books to read on BP, so my T tells me to give myself some credit. OK, nuff of that ,I am going to crawl in bed for awhile. Thanks again DE.

Lots of luck with this, you are going through some difficult stuff, don't lose faith, getting through this does take patience, about 6yrs ago my patience with myself and treatment was so rough, but I found having a little at a time has helped me forge on.
The impossible can become the possible, in time.
I admire you very much for making the step(s) to eventually reach things that are possible and have faith, so much is possible in time.
I'm rooting for you, don't give up on yourself and treatment.
Many good wishes for luck and innerpeace.
DE

Thank you! I had my appt with my Shrink today and she increased my lithium, seroquel and added lexapro in a small dose. Since I am a guinnea pig, I guess I can't really complain too much. From what y'all are telling me, it takes awhile to get dosages correct. I guess I will just hang on with biplol and the rest of y'all until we get it right. Ups and downs may become my best friend for a while. I will do my best to NOT give up on treatment or myself, but that will be hard. If I can do it, anyone can.....
