Just wondering hope I am not just looking for everything that happens to me to be because of the Bipolar I know sometimes things are just physical in nature. Thanks.

This sounds like something you should take up with a doc, maybe a neurologist, I do not see this as any symptom related to being Bipolar. You may ask your pdoc if it has anything to do with what meds you are on, that is if you are taking any med for Bipolar.
If this were me, I would question my doc about it, I would say it is not anything to do with being Bipolar.
If you haven't hada physical for awhile, you may want to go get a checkup, and see if there is any underlying physical thing going on, several things can cause this sensation, so I myself wouldn't wait on it, get some medical advice.
Lots of luck to you

I called my doctor and I am seeing him today. I wanted to let you know just before this happens I get the sense it is about to happen. The electrical jolt just lasts seconds and I don't feel bad afterward at all and it happens when I am lying down and in a resting position. My therapist said to call the doctor, I have psychotic symptoms with my Bipolar and I thought all along it might have been because of it, I will let you know what happens though.

I do recall this happening when I was getting off of Zoloft, many years ago, it did go away once I was fully weaned off, and my depression had gone in remission.
I also had this happen briefly when titrating up on my dosage of Celexa, I called it the "mild jerks", I say mild cause they only would happen once in awhile, not even enough to get concerned over, most of us without taking any meds will have the body jerk sometimes, ever get that feeling right before you go into a full sleep? It is normal. But with certain meds, it is always important to report to your doc, either the meds can be changed or adjusted, dosage wise.
I am glad you are taking this up with your doc, that is the best thing to do, and I wish you luck Is this a symptom?.
Drop back and chat here anytime, let us know how you are doing, or just talk, okay?

Take care,
DE

Dark eyes I found on the internet the symptoms I was describing about the electrical sensation it is due to my panic and anxiety it said it is one of many sensations and person with anxiety and panic gets, so you were right it isn't part of my bipolar it is a separate part of the illness. My moods right now are ok, I am stable for right now. I went to the anxiety forum and am getting some advice from there about derealization. Thanks for everything I will continue to communicate here about my bipolar.

I am glad that you were able to get som esort of info from me, I speak only from my own personal expereince and family members that are also afflicted with this disorder, though in different magnitudes, Bipolar-I and me, Bipolar-II.
Continue to feel free to come here and talk with us.

BTW I developed panic/anxiety disorder last spring, it was scarey, but with meds for that taken as "when needed", that seems under a decent control. . . life brings us all some education, eh?

Take care now,

DE

That was really helpful, because I have had the same thing off and on all my life with schizoaffective disorder, the docs never commented.

I am on Zoloft for my panic and anxiety and have found some relief from some of the symptoms, I still occasionaly get nervous but seem to be few and far between now. Along with my bipolar diagnosis I have psychotic symptoms such as hearing voices. I am glad that this info has helped you in some way though. Good luck and take care of yourself.

Almost all of us, at one time or another, hear noises inside our heads. It could be a ping, a click or a buzz. However, for most of us, it soon goes away too. People who suffer from permanent tinnitus, however, suffer a lot of distress, are unable to sleep and keep wondering if the tinnitus is the precursor to something far more serious, like a tumour in the brain. Insomnia, depression, panic attacks…tinnitus sufferers become vulnerable to such afflictions at some point. The noises of the day usually mask tinnitus but it becomes more pronounced at night time.
Patients also report an increase in tinnitus when they suffer from headaches or are otherwise stressed. It doesn’t take too much of effort to figure out, that tinnitus sufferers have had some degree of hearing loss. Often, if that problem is attended to, the tinnitus may decrease or just vanish. However, for those who have to live with the sounds, the first thing is to come to terms that tinnitus need not be dangerous. It is a condition, nothing more nothing less.

I know this post was made long ago. But thank you for letting me know I am not alone in this world with the zap feelings/sounds in my head.

They only happen when I lie down. When I close my eyes I will hear/feel "zaps" inmy head. I asked my MD about this, and he said NOONE should experiance this and he suggested I seek a "shrink".

I thought I was going off the deep end. I saw another MD years ago, and after talking to her for 15 minutes and filling out a short questionaire my condition she deemed was depression Is this a symptom?. She then prescribe Effexor (75mg) to be taken once daily.

That diagnosis was 4 years ago, for the first year I took it off and on. As my symptons (anxiety, fear, insomnia, mild manics) continued I started taking the meds as prescribed.

They seem to help quite a bit....but, if I miss so much as one dose the "zaps" return with a vengence. Also I have heard the sympton explained as vertigo, but when I don't take my med, if I move my head from side to side, or look down to the left or right, I get a feeling that's hard to explain...not sure if that's Vertigo or not. Is this a symptom?

I do know I am not exactly sure what my condition is..I sometimes will go out of my way to avoid people, both at work and socially...I sometimes feel I have so much energy I could bust, but at other times I feel very tired.

Anyway, it's a great forum, and I want to thank you for affirming that the "zaps" I hear/feel are not my imageination Is this a symptom?
