About 20 years ago, I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety. Probably experiencing both since I was 11 or 12. Last week I went to a psychiatrist and he said I am mildly bipolar. Yes, I do have racing thoughts and sometimes I talk a mile a minute. I've been on SSRIs where I have stayed up three days straight. But, I can tell you, I've never felt elation or that I can do anything, except for a fleeting moment. What gives?
Thanks for this!

It's possible to experience mania without the euphoric mood.

In the DSM I believe it says it's possible for the mood to be "irritable" instead of euphoric.

Bipolar is over-diagnosed. You may well not have it, so good on you for questioning it if you feel it doesnt fit.

I have the irritabilty and the racing thoughts. I feel like I have been ripped off of the "positive" parts of bipolar, but I guess I wouldn't recognize it anyway.

Hypomania can manifest in different ways. Do some research on Bipolar II.

Could it be ADHD? Some people with this can appear manic. Agitated depression? Caffeine? Sometimes when I drink too much I feel like I cannot move fast enough to catch up to my speeding thoughts.

Check into Bipolar II - it's basically the same without the mania. I have II and it manifests as irritability during hypomania

My boyfriend was diagnosed with Bipolar II several years ago. Can you or anyone else explain a little what the delusions of grandeur are? I see him acting very arrogant, and everything is always about him. Everyone else's feelings are secondary. I don't want to say he has something if he doesn't. Also his newest doctor that I have only been able to get him there once so far said he seems to also have ADHD. I guess basically my question is threefold. What does it mean to have delusions of grandeur, is that always a part of bipolar II, and what if anything can be done about it, just medication?

I've also never had those feelings. I've been diagnosed with bi-polar II. There are many symptoms within bi-polar and not every person experiences every symptom. If you have enough other symptoms, that is probably where the diagnosis comes from.

delusions of grandeur aren't a part of BPII, basically that is believing something that is impossible of a grandiose nature. Some are milder such as thinking that they are somehow chosen by a higher power all the way up to someone thinking they are the King of England or some other such implausible idea. Acting very arrogant is not a delusion of grandeur unless he acts arrogant because of a implausible belief
