Is agitation one of your (hypo)mania, mixed, or depression triggers?

Ever since I was diagnosed and made aware of (hypo)mania, I've struggled a lot with identifying my hypomania triggers. Well, I think I've finally figured out one of these triggers!

It seems that extreme, persistent agitation results in a loss of sleep, which in turn triggers my hypomania. So while agitation is not a direct trigger, it is the root of the problem.

Basically, I tend to get really agitated/antsy from sitting in the same spot all the time. I also get agitated when I'm trying to work on something for a long time, but I'm unable to make progress because of my concentration issues. Since at work I'm sitting in the same spot for 8 hours and I can't concentrate, I tend to get really agitated. I think that's why I tend to work better at home, and why my current episode started.

It's not really a trigger but more of a symptom.

Agitation is very much part of my hypomania.

Aggitation is a symptom of my hypomania. It's severe, too.

Hmm. That's interesting. I get agitation several days before I have sleep issues or display other symptoms.. unless my hypomania starts off that way.

For me sleep issues are the first sign. Agitation is a symptom OD mixed mood for me. With hypomania I'm in a good mood and can tolerate a lot.

agitation used to be a part of life for me. even on abilify and trileptal it was an issue. adding low dose lamictal, and then wellbutrin, helped signficantly.

I don't really know if aggitation is a symptom or a trigger, but it usually comes on first for me before sleep issues. I start fidgeting, sweating, my heart pounds, start picking at my cuticles, shred napkins, feel like ripping my hair out, get bad negative self talk like I'm a useless wart on the *** of the earth, hear screaming in my head, etc. oh yea, bleh!

A Pdoc once told me if I couldn't sleep to just get up.
I put on a podcast or load the dishwasher. Cook something. Or read awhile.
Then go back and try to sleep again.

Agitation certainly hits me near the beginning of an episode and just gets worse as it progresses. Certainly is a warning sign for me.

I get agitated or straight up angry when I am manic. I've been known to throw stuff...... I don't like that symptom but it seems to happen with me.

One thing that I learned in the military is that for every hour you work 50 minutes and then take a 10 minute break. All the military classes do that. I still do that even though I'm disability.
Thanks for this!

Interesting. I'll try that next time. I usually just give up sleeping and watch YouTube.

Don't quote me but I think the screen time doesn't work like getting up and doing something or reading. I guess there's a reason they say no screen time an hour before bed.

Agitation is something I've experienced in all phases of BP, whether manic, depressed, hypo, or mixed. That being said, agitation is so severe for me during a mixed episode.

Yeh, the agitation is off the charts for me in mixed episodes too.
