I have a diagnosis of Bipolar 2 with a very slow cycle and a large element
of Seasonal affective disorder. Ten years ago when I was eventually diagnosed I was put on 5mg olanzapine which stopped my psychosis,
auditory and visual hallucinations in their tracks. I was left with a mood that
was as predicted somewhere just below normal and have been there ever since. I very rarely shower or clean my teeth which has recently resulted
in me having a full dental clearance. Although my depressed state is now my normal and is tolerable and my mood is relaxed. I have read on this forum that flouxitine can be taken with olanzapine to improve mood.
Has anyone tried this ? im not to keen on the suggested side effects.
should I be satisfied with my not intollerable present condition or should I
try flouxitine ? apart from the occasional mild mood swing and he fact that I sleep for at least twelve hours a night and I have a lack of energy I feel that things could be a lot worse.

Your thoughts please

I personally don't believe you should resigned to the fact of always feeling depressed. I took flouxitine and it didn't help me but it works really well for others. I think it would be worth a try if your doctor agrees that it might help you.

I think we should always strive and hope for the better. I was in a deep depression for several years and just got better last September after a hospital stay and a complete change in medication, so there is always hope.

I'm on both. First time I was on fluxiten and a mood stablizer I tried to give myself a tummy tuck. Now I'm on it with olanzapine and I still want to dissect my arm and am looking for hidden messages in my husband's text to friends but it's not a need just a nagging thought. I'm going to ask for a different anti depressant because of my symptoms. I would suggest lowering the olanzapine as it can make you "flat" Then if that doesn't work adding an antidepressant.

I was on only Risperdal to prevent psychotic/full manic symptoms, but I was too depressed. After several months of stability, we added fluoxetine. So far, I am pleased with the results. Best of luck,
