I'm anti-medication but since getting sober I've felt the wrath of my moods so agreed to try a med. so I'm about to take 25mg seroquel and then after a week up it to 50. Any information you can give about your experience would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

seroquel WILL make you tired so be ready to lay down when you take it

i like it as i dont have many side effects with it and i take 400mg at night
no weight gain for me

25 is a small dose so you should be ok, i started out at 300mg

I'm only on Seroquel (for now). It does make you sleepy - part of the reason I'm prescribed it at night is because it helps me to sleep, although it also makes it a lot more difficult to wake up!

It worked very well for me but at 150.. i used 300 to stabilize but then it sucked the life out of me. I was ravenous on it but the first thing it did at 150er was destroy my depression. Under 150 its basically only a sleep aid.
It seems to be one of those drugs ppl love or hate. It def worked for me but i gained weight and fast!

I changed from Risperdal only to Seroquel only a few months after a big manic episode, and I did not like it and went back to Risperdal. My pdoc says I did not give the Seroquel enough time (a week) before going back. Mainly, I felt like I was freaking out- about to hallucinate back into full blown mania/psychotic break.

Your results may very. This was just my experience. Seroquel helps many, and it does not sound like you are in a Type one Manic Episode (I would not be able to post on a message board in this state or sit still long enough to do anything).

Best of luck and keep us posted. Thanks,

moogs

Hi Chaotic.

I'm on 100 mg at night right now.
I was suppose to go up to 150 but that was to much for me.
I felt to drugged up on that much.
I had some weird side effects in the beginning, but they seem
to have gone away a little. I'm on Lamictal right now as well.
I hope the Seroquel works for you! Good luck!

True. 150Er actually not only destroyed my depression but threw me into a hypomanic that turned badly and i ended up hospitalized. Anything that takes away my depression seems to turn me manic. But i have mostly the euphoric kind until thy turn mixed so thy are pretty addicting.
Also when i have been hospitalized before for bad mixed episodes once thy treated me with meds the mixed lifted into euphoria. The pdoc at the hospital said because i was in a mixed as you treat it u can be left with the mania part. As the meds kicked in further i turned stable
Bipolar is so crazy!
However most dont go hypo/manic/mixed on seroquel so i didnt think that story would be helpful lol

I've been on Seroquel XR for about 7 months. I'm at 600mg at nite. If you have insomnia (I do) it will go a long way towards getting it under control. I'm experiencing some weight gain. I don't really care about that, I'd rather be fat and happy. Probably the worst side effect I experience is the Restless Leg Syndrome. Sometimes as I lie down to sleep at night it'll make me nuts. I don't seem to experience any fogginess or loss of concentration during the day. I drive a dump truck for a living so anything that caused me to be a "Zombie" would be a problem. I also take Buspar for anxiety.

I used to be on seroquel. I was on 900mg XR for I think just over a year. It kept me stable until I got sick of taking it and went hypomanic for 6 months.

I started on 25mg and ramped up to 400. For me it just made me too tired to function and my quality of life was so bad that the alternative seemed better. It also did not help with the racing thoughts. I tried it for about 9 months before switching.

Hi, all depends why the doc gave you this. I take this 1 or 2 : 25mg PRN to help me sleep. I tried taking it at other dosages before to stabilize my mood but I became a zombie with it. I find it does help me to come down if I'm hypo. After reading different post, on this forum and on others. I found that this can be a good medication for some and for others it's not So best thing is to give it a try. Good luck

I'm on 800mg (400mg morning/400mg evening). I started at 25mg and slow titrated up to this level. I am no longer tired from it, not sure if it's the higher dose or I've gotten used to it. I don't really have any negative side effects. When I first started out I had a couple episodes where I almost passed out after standing up too fast (blood pressure side effect) but that went away.

I was on this for a couple months alone, then added prozac to it and I feel like I'm pretty decent with those two. I probably could get away with just taking the seroquel. If I miss a dose of seroquel I can feel it about 6 hours later. For instance, I forgot to take my morning dose yesterday and I had trouble going to sleep because of restless legs and mind racing. This morning I feel a bit more under control again.

Holy heck I slept 13 straight hours. I am not sure if hubs shut my alarm clock off or not but he got my sons off to school. I feel slightly drunk now.

So I took the pill and slept the first two nights. Now I'm 5 hours after taking the pill and still awake. Is this normal?

I had a similar experience, body just adapts after some time. I still get tired easier if I've had a long day, but if I'm well rested, it won't knock me out like it did at first.
Thanks for this!
