This thing always upsets me.

My psych literally will not give me a straight diagnosis. I've asked very bluntly and clearly, outlined the options of I, II and NOS and asked which one I am. All he will tell me is I definitely am not bipolar I, and that I am rapid cycling, and then say that bipolar is a spectrum.

While I think I understand, I really hate that because it's hard for me. If I have to be bipolar, I'd like to have some grasp of what's wrong with me. I'm sad I can't give a straight answer to this question.

Since I have to do this myself, having gone through all the criteria, I know I'm not bipolar I as I've never had full-blown mania, and my one experience with identifiable hypomania didn't last long enough to qualify for BP II. So I have dubbed myself NOS, as it's the only one that works when I'm so wobbly on the criteria.

I might be in the cyclothymia camp, really, but I just don't fit the criteria of that, either. It's frustrating and part of why I've struggled so much with wondering if I'm really bipolar. At this point I'm just agreeing that I have some bipolar traits that haven't been a big deal since I went on medication, and leaving it at that.

Sorry for having a weird explanation. :P

I feel you sky.

"Bipolar with aggressive tendancies"

Kind of vague, but I did some research and I thinks it is Intermittent Explosive Disorder or some other technical term I ran across but can't remember. I love to learn but I can't read those long dissertations on things. But I can give one! And ramble in the process which I think I am starting to do.

So mine isn't pinpointed either... but there is some bipolar in there I just don't get depressed much i just am manic or really really angry. But it's slowly settling down.

BP II here.

(Becoming….
NOS means "not otherwise specified". It can mean that you don't have symptoms that line up neatly for a dx of either "BP I" or "BP II", yet there's clearly bipolar symptoms and enough of them with enough of an impact on functioning to dx BP. Sometimes it's a temporary dx -- the person diagnosing may feel that they're dealing with bipolar, but want to get to know more about a particular case before deciding if it best falls under BP I or BP II.)

I picked bipolar NOS but what she actually told me was Mixed Bipolar because MY manic exhibits as rage but I'm still depressed. I get no good feelings. I get no extra energy. I just am a lit fuse that can't sleep for DAYS. It's not pretty. Sometimes it's nice because I rage so much I get to forget I'm depressed for just a bit

I am really surprised that there are so few BPD and BP comorbid diagnosis as many people on this forum exhibit more symptoms of BPD than BP.

The debate on BP mixed is ongoing.... I have BP 2 but have mixed episodes (as documented by my pdocs and hospital) but there are many who get an agitated depression reactive to environmental factors, so it doesnt necessarily mean BP or mixed.

Im really surprised by this poll, thanks for participating.

I'm not even exactly sure. You're 1 if you've ever had psychosis, right? Or is that not right? I will have to ask my pdoc next time I see him.

Really? I'm surprised at your surprise! May I ask, what symptoms do you mean? (And if I'm one of them, I'm happy to hear specifics!)

Borderline Personality Disorder. It's often diagnosed along with bipolar, which is called "comorbid," different disorders or conditions occurring at the same time.

I feel for those of you who are uncertain of your diagnosis. This was me just a few short months ago, and I remember just how frustrating it was. Hugs to all of you. I wish you all peace of mind, and I hope you land yourself upon good pdocs to help you sort out the madness.

I'm kind of grateful in a morbid kind of way that I went full blown manic and wound up in the hospital a couple weeks ago. It got me a proper diagnosis. Kind of unfair that BP1 is easier to diagnose. You only need one manic episode to get that diagnosis... That said, mania is no joke, so I don't know how lucky I consider us necessary. It can ruin lives fast. So can depression, though, so ... back and forth. Back and forth. So is the life of a manic depressive.

I was wondering about this as well, a lot of the threads here I read sound like BPD but everyone replies "oh you must be mixed or that's definitely mixed" I used to see more variety on the site from people a few years ago when I joined, people pointed out to others that their emotional responses to things and behaviors sound like Borderline but now everyone's calling everyone mixed.

Bipolar II. Mostly depressive symtoms, anxiety/stress, very rarely hypomania anymore (Lamictal took care of that).

Hit the nail on the head there bluebird! I have a few other examples but I need to go to group in a minute and I dont have time to formulate my response right now but I will be back to the thread.

Keep voting people! It's great so many are participating and its interesting to get stats on whos struggling with what on the forums.
