Is anxiety associated with Bipolar? I have been wanting to get something for it for months now, but I cannot due to not being able to get a psychiatrist easily and the fact they hate to prescribe it because apparently it is addictive.

Anyways, I always get very anxious at night. It happens due to intrusive and repetitive thoughts. Sometimes it happens in the morning too.

I know I'm anxious because:
•I have a hard time controlling my thoughts
•I often reach straight for melatonin to sleep and avoid my thoughts harassing me
•I start to twist/knot my hair and pull and rip it out
•I chew the heck out of the inside of my mouth (biting my lips and cheeks)
•I am restless as I roll around in my bed and sometimes stare into space
•I just wish for an escape
•Sometimes I get negative and a thought of suicide pops into my mind, but I am more often than not really good at pushing those away (I made an attempt about 4 years ago and promised myself I would not try again because of a lot of good that has come into my life since then)
•I might stay up late doing something to distract myself (usually online) because it's only when I'm doing nothing that anxiety is a problem
•I will get scared if I hear an unexpected noise
•I will really want to drink
•Rarely I will scratch myself
•I find myself wishing I never had any responsibilities

I think that's it. It's a real struggle. I'd love to be rid of it someday. I just don't know how to be. :/

I get anxious too. Sometimes I just don't know how I feel about certain situations and drive myself nuts thinking about it.

What do you get anxious about?

I'm very stressed with college in particular right now. I have so much to do and there isn't enough time in the day. So I find myself thinking of what I have to do the next day and for the week. Still, I find it hard to even get out of my bed most mornings which wastes a lot of hours I could be doing work.

I also often have thoughts of missing people. Sometimes people that I should not miss. Recently they have not been too detailed, but they are repetitive. It's just a quick thought usually like "I miss [insert name or relationship title (ex, friend, family member, etc.)]"

YES, anxiety is associated with bipolar. Sometimes it's two separate conditions ( comorbid ) and sometimes it's just one of the lovely symptoms included in bipolar.

Over the counter Benadryl has been approved for off-label use for anxiety, specifically panic disorder. But I wouldn't advise taking it in the daytime.

Becoming - I see. Take it chunk by chunk, if you can. Not to be cynical, but we BPs literally do live day to day, and this could be motivation for you to not worry about anything other than what you are currently doing, because life is too short.

Dis - Interesting, i never knew that about benadryl!
Thanks for this!

Do you think when I can I should see a Pdoc and tell them these things? For now, I could try the Benadryl. I normally take Melatonin at night, but that usually knocks me out the next day and I think it might actually make me feel more depressed to be honest. Thinking about not taking that anymore.

It would be nice if I could worry about only what I am doing. That rarely works because no matter what I do I feel like I should be doing something else instead. I have 10,000 things due this week. I might need to actually stay up late to do them on time.

If you had to put off some of the projects, which could wait?

Even if the answer is none, you may feel better with getting the more important stuff done first. Plus you will feel accomplished and maybe less stressed?

I have anxiety too. I'm anxious all the time for no reason. I've been this way since I was a child. Anxious for no reason. What does a nine year old have to be anxious about?! My parents called it being nervous back then. I had stomach aches all of the time. If I don't take my anxiety meds I constantly feel like I'm about to make a speech in front of three thousand people or something. I hate it!!!

(sorry. had a more anxious than usual day, complete with stomache ache and my clonazepam wasn't helping.)

Anyway, I feel your pain.

Have you tried writing in a journal? That helps me to an extent. I made a calm place in my mind where I can go and feel safe and at ease (probably sounds looney, but it gives me temporary relief). Also deep breathing and meditation helps me.

Hope you feel better soon.

Since your just on Lamictal maybe a short term stronger mood stabilizer or even an AP for a few weeks can help knock back the anxiety enough for you to learn new ways to slow things down at night.

Sometimes taking a hot as you can stand shower often wears you down to where you can push a side a nighty ritual you seem to have.

Mainly just keep flinging coping skills at the mess until something sticks .

Im sorry your under so much stress right now , It will get better
